telling friends = telling facebook?

We are coming out to the rest of our friends in a few days and DH and I can't agree on whether we need to come out on facebook at the same time too.

I'd prefer to wait a little while longer before announcing on facebook, maybe until 16w. He thinks once we start telling people it's going to hit facebook so we might as well out ourselves so we can be the ones to tell people.

I'm really torn! What has your experience been? Do you wish you did things differently?

I waited until our siblings and grandparents knew before putting it on facebook. My grandmothers have facebook and I told them not to post until that Monday since we spent the weekend telling our close family. No one said anything on my page until I posted it.

when we told our friends/family, we specifically said "don't say anything on facebook!" lol. they've requested our wishes so far... except for my one friend in colorado who asked last week if there is any new baby news on my wall... but i forgive her lol. i'm waiting until we find out if it's a boy or girl before making my announcement on fb.

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

Im 10w and plan on outing myself on FB at 12w. I have already told many close friends and so far no one has outed me on FB. I think it can be done if you ask them not to say anything.

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

I told friends around 8 weeks and I just "announced" on facebook at 13 weeks. I didn't even specifically tell my friends not to say anything on facebook. I think people realize that if you have not posted anything yourself about being pg, that you want it kept quiet on facebook until you do. No one outed me on facebook. I made my announcement when I was ready.

I specifically told people not to post anything on facebook. Thankfully everybody listened. I actually never posted anything on FB about my pregnancy. I had a miscarriage at 13 weeks in b/w DD & DS and just didn't feel comfortable posting about my pregnancy. We did post an announcement and pics once DS was born.

I didn't have a FB account when DD was born.

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

We told our immediate families first, at about 8 weeks. Then at the end of the 1st trimester we told our friends and co-workers and came out on FB and LIF at the same time.

I think it depends on who your FB friends are, or maybe how many you have. If you have a lot, it would be like telling the whole world. If it's a small group like us, it's really just your social circle.

You can tell friends and ask them to keep it off FB, a lot of people do that but then you run the risk of someone slipping.

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

We are telling groups of friends and family at different times. We are planning on blocking our walls until we finish telling everyone so it won't be posted on our FB.

i told friends and then took down my wall so no one would write anything on FB. I wanted my closest friends to know but not the 150 other FB friends I have. I'm just more private I guess.

most people understand that its not facebook knowledge until you yourself announce it!

i would never think to mention anything about anyone on facebook untill the person themself has said something or made and official announcement.

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

we told immediate friends and family not to say anything on facebook and no one did. I actually didn't say anything on facebook until like 22 weeks and my friends all knew about it since 7 weeks so you can successfully keep it quiet on facebook.

Disable your wall and don't post any status updates about anything! That way no one can slip.

We told some close friends early, and they knew not to say anything on FB.

At 12 wks, we made the big announcement on FB to the world.

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

We told immediate family at 6 weeks, pretty much when we found out and then the rest of the family and close friends at 12 weeks. And everyone we told - we STRESSED no Facebook! No one has slipped yet!

I did something like this......I created a group who had no access to my wall or anything else.....that way they couldn't learn accidentally. Worked for us!

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

I told people WAY before I put it on FB. . I didn't do that until after our 20 week screening and told people from 4 weeks (the closest friends and family) everyone else after first trimester and then FB after we felt like we were most likely in the clear for everything! we didn't have anyone slip up which was really nice. people were pretty respectful. .

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

I started telling people when I was 12 weeks and I am 15 weeks now. Between my page and DH's page no one has said anything on FB. I usually tell people "No FB" when I tell them the news and no one has posted anything yet! I dont want to post on there until I am 6 months or later.

Re: telling friends = telling facebook?

I would come out on FB. I told family and some close friends the news... word started spreading and then people started posting things on my FB wall! Before I posted on FB!
