Dropping BFing sessions/stopping comfort nursing-HELP!
DD is going to be 11 months next week and she is still EBF. I have no intention to wean her at age 1. She will take a sippy of water, but drinks pretty poorly out of it.
She is nursing a lot more than 5 times a day. She nurses up to 8-10 times a day. I know a few of those times are strictly using me to comfort herself. She does it a lot when she is frustrated or falls.
I know that this is a terrible habit and needs to be stopped. But I don't know how to do it without a full out screaming match. I didn't let her do it as much today and she literally cried and screamed until it was mealtime, when she would nurse anyway.
Part of me is not bothered by it. Do I just let her do it, or am I/have I creating/created a monster? How do I stop her from nursing various times a day on demand? I gave her the sippy and she hurled it, with force on to the floor and screamed. I have her a paci and she chewed on it before tossing it too.
I am at a loss. What should I do?

Yes, she eats three meals and I will give her snack (puffs, EB graham cracker sticks). She is not the best eater, but she definitely does eat.

When she gets frustrated like that...have you tried redirecting her, like showing her a different toy? Or maybe taking her to the window to look outside? Anything that will distract her from being upset.

Jack was like this too at that age and I didn't mind so i let him. Once he was a little older and could understand more, I was able to tell him that the "boo boos" (what he calls them) were sleeping and he could have it later. He was usually fine with it but if he got upset I was able to distract him with something else or give him a sippy. I also stopped brining him into his bedroom or sitting on the couch with him since he associated those places with nursing.

i would definitely try to distract her with something else, a toy, a tv show, a mirror, your cell phone, something to get her mind off crying. she just gets herself so worked up that she has completely forgotten why she's even crying.

I do sometimes and she gets angry and starts crying more and just throws herself on the floor or grabs my pants. The window helps as does the mirror to calm her down.

If I remember correctly when I was ready to stop the comfort sessions I would just give him a hug, kiss, tell him I loved him. Or offer him a "healthy" snack such as grapes, puffs, fish, etc. DS was always a great eater so I don't really remember having that hard of a time getting him to drop those nursing times.
eta - I also definitely created a schedule which probably helped also. Wake up nurse. Eat breakfast. Nurse before am nap. Eat lunch. Nurse before pm nap. Eat dinner. Nurse before bed. And that's it. I stopped offering it at any other times.

ITA with PPs.
I would make a nursing schedule that you feel comfortable with. At 11 months, Loey was nursing 4 times/day (which went down to 2 when I started working).
When he first woke up. When he woke up from 1st nap. When he woke up from 2nd nap. Right before bed.
I wouldn't offer any time other than those times and see how she does. How much other food is she eating? Is she on table food completely?

Yes, you MUST have a schedule! It is so beneficial to them and to you. DD's schedule is:
Wake up (6:30-7:30): Nurse fBreakfast (8:30-9) Nurse before Nap (9:45) Nap(10-12): 2hrs Lunch (1) Nurse (3) Nap (3-5) Dinner (6) Bath Bed Nurse (7:30)
ETA: I am trying to drop the few min nursing session before the morning nap.

She is not completely on table food. She gets a combo of both.
She is really not a good eater or gainer.
The problem is I am not offering. She will squirm down to nurse when I am holding her or she will come over to me and I will get her and she will do it.
I then put her down and give her a toy, sippy, whatnot and she will scream bloody murder until she can nurse.

You are right. She is on a schedule for everything else but nursing.

Re: Dropping BFing sessions/stopping comfort nursing-HELP!
I agree with the others, setting a schedule is key. My DD was never nursed on demand (because she never gave hunger cues, so I just nursed her every few hours) so it was easy to set up a schedule early on. I can't imagine how hard it must be on you to still be nursing 10 times at day at this point.
Good luck!
