my friend is giving birth at Winthrop in the next few weeks and she said that they are doing a "trial" of some sorts with all private rooms for the next year.
When I gave birth I shared a room and honestly did not mind one bit, however it would be great to have a private room!

For me I mostly just want my own bathroom and shower.
I had ds at LIJ, I was in a double and the bathroom was in between ours and another double, so there were 4 to a bathroom.

They didn't put anyone in the other bed, I had a bathroom in my room but had to use the showers in the hallway.
Thanks. That's how huntington is as well. I know I'm a lil crazy, the 2nd bed in my room was empty, but I paid for a private room partly to not have to use the hall showers (I had a c-section and was there 4 nights).

Just so you know, i had twins too and EVERYONE and their mother gave birth on 12/2 when i had my twins. I shared a room the first 2 nights and then got my own room nights 3-5. So if they are really busy, you will share, but the nurse did tell me for the most part, they are trying to accommodate private rooms.
I was there when you had your babies... DD was born 11/30 and Winthrop was PACKED. No private rooms to be had... anywhere.

This surprises me - when I had my first it was packed and there were no private rooms unless you paid for it. All other times I've gone to visit anyone it is always pretty crowded and not many singles in a room due to low number of babies being born. I didn't think it was too terrible having a roomie except for her son was a champ nurser and I was having a super hard time, very frustrating to hear that!!!!

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade here but unless they are going strictly to private rooms only - like South Nassau...there is absolutely ZERO guarantee. I was willing to pay for my private room and there were none available when I gave birth...packed house! I know SO many other people too who have given birth there recently...mostly all had to share rooms.
This is just sort of a crazy "rumor" to me...sure they can try to accommodate but if it's crowded...you are going to have to share. I guess I just don't see what the rumor is all about since you still may very likely have to share rooms.

I don't mind having a room mate (as long as they are normal...lol) I just want the window seat. I am claustrophobic and need the window!!!! Thats all I am hoping for!!!

I had to pay for my private room back in March 09 when I had DS. I requested it at check in and it was not a guarantee I would get one. I will totally pay for it again if I have to, it was money well spent to me. I am hoping to get a private room again this time, but who knows! May is a popular month to have babies!
