concerns over DD's weight...sorry this is long
Something that MIL and SIL said last night about my DD's weight had me thinking. I just need some advice.
My DD is almost 7 months but at her 6 month check up she weighed 15 lbs. 8 oz. At the time of her appointment, the doctor never seemed concerned about her weight so we thought it was fine.
Last night, DH mentioned that lately DD has been constantly throwing her head back. So, MIL and SIL responded that they think that DD is fragile (has weak bones)...they even mentioned that DD's cousin (who is one month older) is sturdier and I mentioned that she is one month older than my DD but they responded that she was always sturdier even at DD's age. They think it has to do with DD not drinking enough formula and also that DD has a milk allergy and is currently on Alimentum while my niece is not.
I will definitely bring this up to my doctor when I go there but do you think that her milk allergy is the reason?
I just need some advice/feedback.
Thanks.

Re: concerns over DD's weight...sorry this is long
i just checked the growth chart at at 6 months she' right on the 50th percentile mark which is good. And even besides that the main thing that the ped is concerned with is if they are in they drop to a different percentile.
As for the throwing of the head back that's part of the age or it may be a reflux problem. My DD does that due to reflux they say.
If you feel concerned, call up your ped's office and explain it to them. They know your child best and can calm any concerns you may have.

Re: concerns over DD's weight...sorry this is long
my dds just went for their 8 month check up, one of them weighed 14lb 12 oz, which was the less than 5 percentile,
i asked the doctor if i should be worried about this and she said no, she is healthy and doing well, but of course we will be paying close attention to if she is gaining weight, and she also throws her head back a lot in fact both of my dds do, and the other is in the 50-75 percentile so i wouldnt be too worried but of course ask your dr

Re: concerns over DD's weight...sorry this is long
I think my dd was that exact weight at 6 months if not it was 15lb 6oz. At 9 months she was 3lbs more so around 18lb 6oz. At 15 mos she was 20lb2oz...so she has really slowed down in her weight gain but the ped said it is fine she is just a thin girl and that as long as there was a gain it is ok. Try not to compare to other kids...i know easier said than done-kids much younger than my dd weigh more than her...but I am pretty skinny myself so it looks like she is like me in that department.

Re: concerns over DD's weight...sorry this is long
i dont think there is any correlation with the alimentum so do NOT stress about that...
DS is 8.5 months and has been on Alimentum since just under 4 months. He is a big boy! 20ish lbs and almost 30 inches so his growth has not been hindered by the Alimentum.
He has started banging his head (or bumping the back of it on things) ... my chest, his crib, the floor ive been told its a way of "soothing" and its nothing to worry about. he doesnt do it hard but that sounds like what you are describing?
her weight sounds great! i dont think you have anything to worry about

Re: concerns over DD's weight...sorry this is long
I just checked DD's chart: she was 15 lbs 1 oz at her 6 month and at 8 months she was 17lbs......
She is now 2 and only 25lbs.....the doctor NEVER seemed concerned...he even jokes she is a model potential since she is "skinny" and tall..
My DD is a terrible eater and doesnt care for food.....she is very picky and now everything is a NO!
Try not to worry...as long as she is "healthy" that is all that matters.

Re: concerns over DD's weight...sorry this is long
If you are concerned about the Alimentum, don't be. My DS was on Alimentum and he weighed a whopping 25 lbs at 12 months and was 31 inches. He was big and chunky even before he started solids at 6 months.
Also, I don't get how throwing her head back means that she is fragile. Does it flop backwards or does she throw it. Even if it flops, it's more indicative of muscular weakness than fragile bones.
If you are concerned definitely talk to your ped but take what your MIL/SIL say with a grain of salt.

Re: concerns over DD's weight...sorry this is long
My DD was always petite, yes she had a milk allergy, but It is just who she is. My DD does not have weak bones she is just petite and there is nothing wrong with that.
My DS on the other hand had a more severe milk allergy than DD yet has always been very "solid". I think it is their body type more than anything else.

Thank you for responding...it doesn't flop, she throws it back. My MIL watches both the girls and she says that my niece was more solid at DD's age than my DD...so she thinks that Alimentum has to do with it.
