Baby's first steps?

so my DD is 11 months old. If I prop her facing me with the couch behind her (and a toy in my hadn ;), she will take 1-5 stepsChat Icon However, I dont know if I should count it as first steps b/c I am setting her up. If she is holding onto something, she is beginning to let go but wont really initiate taking a step to get where she wants, she falls and just crawls. So my questions are:
1) Am i doing the right thing setting her up to get her to practice taking the steps and does it count as a first step
2) How long did your LO go from first steps to walking. I dont think my DD is steady enough or comfortable enough yet for that, but hopefully soon

Re: Baby's first steps?

DS took some first running steps at 9m, I set him up for that.

At 10m, he sets himself up, throws himself from one "ledge" to another and runs between them without holding on. Like from sofa to coffee table. Both padded both soft and he kind of crashes into them.

He's not walking yet, and I don't count it.

Re: Baby's first steps?

DS started to take his first steps around 11 months. He would pull himself up and take a few steps. First it was 1-2 steps, then 3-4 steps. It is walking to me when they take up to 6 steps....So I considered DS walking at that time. Just because you had to stand up your DC doesn't mean anything in my book. DS took off on Dec 2 when he walked across the living room. I tell people that he started to walk in October and really took off in December...Chat Icon

Re: Baby's first steps?

If she's taking a few steps unassisted, I'd consider it walking. DS didn't take any unassisted steps until 15 months. Within 10 days, he was walking FT.

DS #1 starting walking just after 1 yr and ds#2 took a little longer. He is 14 months and just started within the past couple of weeks.

Once they start, they don't stop!!!
