wont take milk in sippy

DD is great with the sippy...for water.
So shes a year- time to get rid of the bottle. Just started her on milk so I figured let me do the sippy too. Wouldnt touch it! As soon as I put the milk in the bottle, she drank it!

Do you think its too much of a change- both milk and no bottle? Should I give her a little time to adjust to the milk before takiing away the bottle? Waht did you ladies do?

Re: wont take milk in sippy

Walmart sells a cup by Nuby...that has a soft spout and I think makes the transition easier for milk. They sell a blue one and a pink princess one. My 18 month loves it. She never fought me once. We have been bottle free for awhile now.

I can't find a picture online..but if you really need it I can take a pic and upload it. It has a clear soft spout. They have a blue one for boys with pirate stuff on it..and pink one for girls with princess stuff. I have only seen them at walmart and sometimes it's hit or miss. Good Luck!! I know its hard. I could not get my middle child to drink milk at of anything other than a bottle. Now she will be 4 on tues..and hasn't had a glass of milk in quite a while. I actually kept her on the bottle longer for milk only because it was important to me she drink milk. She wouldn't even touch it in a cup. I wish they had these cups when I was going through it. It may have worked.

Constantine drinks great out of the Nuby sport sipper. I love them! Have them in every "boy" color! What kind of cups do you use? Oh and he drinks a lot when he first wakes up before breakfast, that helps. Still a bedtime bottle, but thats bc I like it! Chat Icon

Why the rush to drop the bottle? My DD went cold turkey with her bottles at 17 months. No need to rush it IMO.

Just as an FYI though........when she did drop her bottles her milk consumption went waaaay down once we went over to the sippy but that's to be expected. They won't guzzle a sippy the way they guzzle a bottle. My DD wasn't crazy about milk in a sippy either so for 3-4 days we put a drop of Hershey Syrup in her milk and she loved it and drank it right up. After a few days we dropped the syrup and she drank plain milk with no problem after that. Chat Icon

it took ds a week of offering him the sippy for him to actually drink out of it. you have to be consistent and not give in and once they realize that they are not going to get their bottle they will drink out of it.

We have the Nuby too with the soft spout. Its not the cup because she will drink water fine out of the cup!

I totally agree with this. Liam drinks milk out of the Nuby Sports Sipper too. We started using it just in the morning at around 13 months because he wouldn't drink milk out of a straw sippy. Then we dropped the nighttime bottle and switched to the sport sipper at around 18 months and he had no problems.

Re: wont take milk in sippy

Could of written this post myself when DD was younger..she drinks her milk fine from the Born Free trainer cup! Someone on here suggested it and she absolutely loves it. It is like a cup but has a very soft and big spot. It also has handles that she loves to hold.

Re: wont take milk in sippy

It was very hard for us to drop the bottle. DS didnt drop it till recently and he just turned 2Chat Icon . We bought the stage 5 Pampers cups. We went cold turkey and he is drinking about 5 oz. a time from these. Since he was a little older, we made a big deal out of the cups. They have a soft spout and handles.

yes unfortunately thats what you have to do. a friend of mine told me to do that and i didnt believe her but it does work. plus i asked my doc about it and he said as long as getting calcium from someplace else its fine and its only for a week anyway.

Re: wont take milk in sippy

I tried for months to get DD drinking milk from a sippy. Warm, cold, ice cold, this sippy that sippy, you name it!

I gave her a bottle after dinner with 8 oz of milk every night until 18 months just to get her milk into her.

The dr was like "get rid of the bottle and don't worry about the milk". She still doens't drink very much milk at 2 1/2 but she eats cheese, yogurt, etc.

ETA: And it's not just refusing the bottle, it's a full out hysterics about how she wants a bottle. It's bad!Chat Icon
