I had never heard of this concept before LIF -- a "push present".

No offense to anyone else, but to me it just seems like another "keeping up with the Jonses" notion of this site.

The baby is the gift, I don't need something materialistic from my DH as a "hey thanks for pushing my kid out" sort of thing.

But that's JMO.

I agree with you.

I had never heard of them before this site and never told DH about them. Maybe I don't qualify though since I had an emergency c-section and didn't actually "push" DS out Chat Icon

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

I think it's a nice idea, but not in the sense of "you went through labor, tore your vag, and gave birth to our kid" - - a "reward" of sorts.
I think it's a nice gesture, doesn't have to be overly expensive, and as a PP mentioned, maybe something reflective of the baby's birthstone. Something sentimental.
No, i don't expect an expensive gift, but I do expect he will get me flowers and a little something, since he is pretty thoughtful like that in general.

Oh yes! I want an eternity band of my baby's birthstone, if EDD goes as plan I'll be getting a ruby eternity band that I plan to make stackable with each new addition!

OMG I love this idea!! Chat Icon

me too!!

This is a great idea!

I have never wanted or expected one...just dont get the concept much!

With DS I did get a necklace but it was a christmas gift from DS who was 5 days old at the time!

THis time around I want some mommy jewelry not sure what...but I told him I Dont want anything for Christmas or my b-day so that is a delayed gift I guess!

But they are just items I want I will go get them myself if need be because I deserve it not for pushing or going under the knife but just to commemorate the births of the loves of my life!

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

I think push presents are very nice, although not necessary. They are pretty common amongst my circle of friends. I did receive a nice present for DD and I believe DH will do something nice for me the second time around. It is not expected, but definitely appreciated Chat Icon

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

When DS was born DH bought be a diamond heart necklace. It is gorgeous.

This time after the twins are born DH will buy me a "mommy ring" with my birthstone, DH birthstone, and DCs birthstones.

eta - deserving or not is ones own opinion. However, I do feel I have made many sacrifices for my gorgeous children whether it be drinking a glass of wine socially, growing larger and feel uncomfortable, etc, and for that if he'd like to spoil me with something nice, who am I to turn it away Chat Icon

We're not doing the push gift thing. We have spent so much money...and the baby is gift enough for us both!

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

I made SURE my husband knew about push presents and that I wanted one. I gave him rein over what to get me and he did very well. I couldn't care less if it is materialistic to want one. I appreciated his acknowledgment of how difficult pregnancy can be.

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

Had never heard of it until coming on here and would never ask or even tell DH about it. We are both getting a big gift already, I do not need anything else. DH brought me flowers and balloons when DD was born and I was super thrilled with that.

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

Is this really a thing? Lol...um, I think DH is getting me the monkey mommy and baby charm for my Pandora bracelet when I give birth, so I guess that counts as one? It was his idea, I certainly didn't ask for it. Well, I asked for it when I handed him the brochure haha, but he's mentioned he's definitely getting me some charm for the baby, so I guess that counts.

I had never heard of this until I saw a bunch of women's "gifts" at work. Most of them got right hand rings. Almost everyone I know has gotten one now.

I asked my husband to get me a necklace that I had had made a few years ago and lost. This is it but in white gold.

honestly, I never even thought about it, but I HAVE heard of it. I think its a really sweet gesture, but not necessary. I'd just be happy with flowers and a sweet card. Chat Icon

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

My DD was born a few days before Mothers Day so DH had already bought a heart locket (from her) but i wouldn't expect a present for 'pushing'.
He gives me a present everyday by being extra supportive & helping out in every way. That's good enough for me.

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

Nice thought, the real push gift is the baby. Thats why you went through pregnancy and labor, to create a life. That was by far the most rewarding experience of my life, creating him.

Completely agree with you. Not to mention with how expensive babies are you really don't need to figure out ways to spend more money jmo.

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

I told DH all I'd like is some flowers and a sentimental card!

I think he'll probably do a little bit more, but I don't want it. I just want flowers (I realllllllly like getting flowers) and a card, because I save all my cards.

I can enjoy my flowers while I lay on my stomach and eat sushi Chat Icon

I never expected a push present. I never heard of it until my friends started talking about it. I never mentioned this to my DH...however some of his friends did and planted the seed.

My DH went a little crazy but wanted me to have something that I really wanted and was timeless. So last night he gave me a Cartier watch that I had always admired. Honestly I was beyond shocked! I love the watch...however what he said to me when he gave it to me and all the love and support is all I really wanted and will treasure. With that said, I love that whenever I look at the time....I will be brought back to the time when my daughter entered this world and brought my Dh more love and happiness than we could ever imagine! I don't expect it, I'd never ASK for it - but if DH chooses to buy me a gift, Thank you very much. Chat Icon

This is how I feel, too. Chat Icon
My dad gave my mom gifts with both babies. My mom always wore the necklace he gave her when I was born and told me about it growing up. This was long before it had a term like "push present" but I always thought it was so sweet.
I also don't like the idea of demanding anything. So if DH thinks of it, great, if not, my baby is best gift of all!

Re: What do you think of push gifts?

Not necessary , but a nice gesture . I got one after my first DC, my DH's idea .

I do not think a partner buying a gift for you is ever silly and as long as you hcan afford it , and there is is no pressure to spend , force a push gift or whatever gift, go for it.
