If you have been on a cruise before with kids I have some questions

I read on here, and on the Carnival website that kids who aren't potty trained can't go in the pool....what in the world am I supposed to do with my son who will be 15 mnths at the time of the cruise? Does he just not go in the pool? How strict are they with this?

Also - have you ever put your child in the Camp on the boat? Did they like it?

I know Disney was strict about it. they had a separate wading pool. It's a health issue. It sucks but I totally understand.

Re: If you have been on a cruise before with kids I have some questions

I was on a Carnival cruise over the summer & I know they were strict w/ children in the whirlpools & I honestly didn't see any little kids in the big pools.

I think though there may be a special pool on the kiddie level of some ships?? By camp carnival

We sailed with RC and I know they were pretty strict about it....

I think I have heard of people on here bringing small inflatable wading pools with them and setting them up on the deck Chat Icon Not 100% sure on that though...

DS was only 9 months so he wasnt old enough to participate in the camp, but my SD was 7 at the time and we did let her do some of the group activities with them, but she didnt stay with them all day ...She liked it, but preferred to stay and hang out with us Chat Icon

we went on norwegian and they were strict with the pool rules. they did offer a kiddie pool area but it was inclosed and right next to the smoking area Chat Icon so it smelled of chemicals with a mix of smoke so we never used it.

we didnt use the crib bc ds hated it - he winded up sleeping with us..

Do you think I should bring a pack and play. We aren't flying to the ship so it's not a big deal if we do have to bring it

Re: If you have been on a cruise before with kids I have some questions

We went on Carnival when Bella was just 2.

She was not potty trained and she wore a swim diaper all day at the pool. She was in the pool 24-7. No one said one word to us about it. Not even other people. She was in the hot tub a lot as well.

We got a crib from Carnival for the room. It was a little smaller than a PNP.

Check out my pics ;)

My sister used the camp and the boys loved it. The kids have a GREAT time. They do so many fun things and I have never heard one bad thing about it.

They give you a phone in case anything goes wrong etc so you can be reached at any time.

Fm me Diana... whatever you need to know Chat Icon

MUST GET A BALCONY ROOM!!! Chat Icon

Re: If you have been on a cruise before with kids I have some questions

We were on Celebrity and they let us bring both kids into the kids pool even though they were both in diapers at the time. DS missed out on the kids camp by a few months but they let me walk inside to get a special toy box I could bring to our room for the week. They were not really individually supervised. A lot of the 6-10 year olds played on the computers, PS3, Wii, Xbox type things. The younger ones were climbing on the jungle gym and there were counselors for the younger ones. I don't think I would leave a kid under age 4 though.

As for what to do, get a blow up pool and a pump plop it between two chairs on the pool deck. Ask for help from the crew to fill it up with water. HTH

Re: If you have been on a cruise before with kids I have some questions

i just got off a cruise ship two days ago after a 7 day cruise on Royal Caribbean with my 27 month old daughter.

They were VERY strict about not letting her in the regular pools. The people were constantly watching. However, they did have a small kiddie splash pool that had some fountains and was enough to keep my daughter very happy (thankfully, I thought I was going to be in trouble). She was in it every single day.

Our ship provided a pack and play, which she slept in very happily. Only complaint was that it took up pretty much ALL of the room in our cabin.

Good luck, have a great time!

ETA, she was too young for the camp.

Re: If you have been on a cruise before with kids I have some questions

We just went on a Carnival cruise with DD earlier this month. She is 3 so we didn't have the potty issue with the pool.

I was hesitant about sending her to the camp but they gave us a cell phone in case she wanted to leave or whatever. She had an absolute blast!! She asked to go back every day. We only brought her at night (after dinner) for a few hours but she was always begging to go. They did so much stuff with them and they got to interact with other kids. It is free up until 10pm each night after that it is something like $6/hr for one child and $10/hr for two. If they only stay a half hour beyond 10pm they only charge you $3 etc. It is in 15 minute increments.

Each night they did something different (different theme) One night was pirates and DD had her face painted. We weren't expecting it when we picked her up and such a good laugh with how cute she looked (I will try to post a pic)

I don't think you will be disappointed - the staff was wonderful and it allowed DH & I to go to the casino - see a show etc.

If you have any other questions - feel free to FM me!!

Soooo cute!

I wouldn't leave him at the camp all day but figured I would look into the schedule and send him to the activities I think he would like.

At 15 months your child is too young for camp. You can use the babysitting service starting at 10 pm however.

We never had an issue with the pool. We always took our chances with the diaper built into the swimsuit. No one ever knew and we never let them in until after they pooped. The wading pool was always good too. We took long walks on pool days until the babies fell asleep. Then they took nice naps by the poolwhile we relaxed. (Neither of them were nappers at home but they were so tired!)

Sounds nice!

I wouldn't do Camp for my 15 month old, but for my older son

That was basically what we did - every night at 7 started the "theme night" so she would typically go from 7ish (depending on when we finished dinner) - 9:30-10 - she only stayed past 10pm one night while went to see a show but she was picked up at 10:30 The day we were at see we went with her to a build a bear event which was cute too! I think your son will love it!
