LA Fitness

Anyone use it??? Pros/ Cons. I am overweight. Will I feel comfortable there??

I have been a member of quite a few gyms. A small private one when I first started, NYSC, Eqiunox and LA Fitness before I got married. I was at the one at Lake Success. I liked it. I have to say it was HUGE. I didn't like the parking lot never really felt that safe unless I was very close.

my friend just joined the new one in w. babylon and say she loves it. I stick with my cheapy gym for now. Although sometimes i would like to check out a class but lst time i was at a gym that had classes i never went due to embarrassment.

we belong to it and love it. the staff is friendly and we like the machines

I go there, and there are people of all shapes and sizes. Esp in the classes, which I love. There are really hardcore/fit people, and uncoordinated ones. Dont feel like that - you will fit in and just go at your own pace.

I used to go to lake success LA Fitness I always liked going, parking was a beotch but I hear it's not as crowded now a days. good classes

I liked it at first, but then I started to hate it and would never go again...

#1- Most of the girls there are wearing lil sports bras and prancing around talking to guys instead of actually working out...

#2- The parking is HORRIBLE... like HORRIBLE at any hour... I used to go at all different times 5am, or 9am, or 7pm... Horrible...

#3- The parking lot in the one in Lake Success- has security now b/c cars get broken into EVERYDAY... my mom still belongs to this gym b/c it has a great pool, but I am honestly scared for her to go there... literally at least once a week she sees cops in the parking lot b/c of people with broken windows and stuff stolen out of their cars.

#4- The Pool heater is always broken (according to my mom) It was broken for 3 months in a row at 1 time (this didn't effect me b.c I didn't really use the pool)

#5- The bathroom locks were ALWAYS BROKEN

#6- People were complaining about the Lockers also being broken into...

IDK if this is the one that you were intending on going to... I honestly am very laid back and don't complain about anything... but its the safety things that concern me there...

Not sure where you live but have you looked into Lifetime Fitness? It's opening in Syosset in Feb. I wish I could join...too far for me.

i belong to the one in farmingdale and i love it.
its huge and has a lot of facilities (pool, jacuzzi, sauna, cycling room, basketball court, raquetball court, aerobics room, small seperate ab work room, etc)
its a little pricey but i think its worth it.
parking in farmingdale is fine. i go late though, like 8:30pm or 5am (when i go lol)
i havent seen people there trying to "pick each other up". ive seen a wide range of people there though (old, young, overweight, superfit). ive never felt uncomfy. staff is friendly.
and its clean

DH belongs there and I went with him once. There were people there of all ages and sizes. I saw the stereotypical "juice heads" down to a group of elderly ladies on treadmills chatting away. It's a really nice, clean gym. I plan on checking out some of the classes myself.
