Waking up Newborn
I posted something similar and tried all the suggestions but it didn't work (making her familiar with sun light, being loud, swaddle at night so he knows its bed time etc...) DD sleeps all day and is up from 11pm-3am and sleeps from 3-9am which is great...how can I wake her up during the evening so she can sleep earlier...once I go back to work (Jan.) this cannot happen. Will she change on her own or should I wake her up around 6ish...The catch is this baby can sleep through anything!
Thanks!!

Re: Waking up Newborn
I was always told to not wake up a newborn and they will eventually get on a schedule.
How old is your LO?
Mine is 5 weeks and eats every 3-4 hours and during the day he is usually up for about an hour or so and then is out like a light for the next 2-3 hours until it's time to eat. He basically has the same routine in the AM and PM and so far has not slept for more then 5 hours in one shot.

Re: Waking up Newborn
I heard not to wake them up also. My DD is 10 weeks old and only at about 8 weeks did she sleep her first full night without waking to feed. It's hit or miss right now but I think she's making the transition. Before that, she was sleeping, waking to feed, going right back to sleep.
I didn't do anything in terms of trying to get her to sleep longer or at night, not even a routine. Their bodies just adjust slowly. You will might have a few bad nights when you start working (like I did) but not as much. Don't worry; I was so worried about how it would be like going back to work and her not sleeping right but she did fix herself quite nicely just in time.

Re: Waking up Newborn
I'm in the group of never wake a sleeping baby
What I did do was open up the blinds, turn on the TV, talk in normal volume, basically act like its daytime when it was daytime. At night we spoke in hushed tones, dim lighting, quiet sounds.
#1 she learned to sleep through anything
#2 she learned night time was quiet time (but that did take awhile)
She was still not STTN when I went back to work but she wasn't up and playing at 3am either.

Re: Waking up Newborn
I woke DD up every three hours during the day to eat. I would change her diaper, take off her clothes. . . even rub her down with a wet wascloth. Sometimes she would eat and go back to sleep, sometimes it worked and she would stay up for a bit.
good luck!

I did this (except the washcloth - since DS was a winter baby, the diaper change was enough to wake him!)
