Staring problems

It's really embarrassing but sometimes I stare and I don't mean it.

If I'm tired or thinking, I just stare off into space. But sometimes, without realizing it I end up staring at people. Once at a bar, a girl wanted to fight me because I had a "staring problem" and another time at the gym someone turned to me and asked "Um is there a problem" I wasn't intentionally staring either time I just stare off into space because I get lost in my thoughts.

I never stare at people on purpose because of how they look, or if they have a handicap, or anything.

I was just wondering if anyone else has ever been caught accidentally staring.

It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but some women have been ready to FIGHT me because they thought I was staring at them. I hope I'm not completely abnormal. Chat Icon

I am the same way. I do it ALL the time. I call it "spacing out" Chat Icon

No one has ever wanted to fight me (that I know of) but I have caught myself staring at someone many times. I never realize I am doing it!

Re: Staring problems

Wow, my friend has this problem as well. She just stares at people and many times she actually has a judgemental look on her face when she does it. I am not sure if she means it or not. I was with her this weekend and we were on a crowded subway and she was just STARING at the girl standing next to her. You could tell the girl was getting uncomfortable. I whispered to my friend, "Stop staring at that girl, it is weird!" She was just like, "Oh, I know I have a staring problem, I can't help it!"

SO you are not alone! Chat Icon

I don't think someone is necessarily a "twit" b/c your staring at them elicits a response. If someone is staring at me for a few seconds I would never say anything. If someone is staring at me and minutes are passing you bet your a$$ I would say something like, "Do I know you?" or "Can I help you with something?". I think that's a pretty normal reaction.

I also don't think that you "look[ing] like poo" gives someone the "right" to stare at you.

To the OP, if you were staring at me long enough and intensely enough to elicit a response if you said to me, "I was really just zoned out in my own thoughts- sorry if it seemed like I was staring at you" or "Sorry if it looked like I was staring- I was just spacing out" I would think nothing of it and just move on. i agree. I also don't know anyone's mental status either and I have learned that ANYONE can fly off the handle for no reason, etc.

I should have also mentioned that if someone who is clearly insane is staring I don't say anything (like on the train) lol. But also looks can be deceiving and you never know so I probably do take a chance when I ask, "Can I help you with something" or, "Do I know you?"

Brina- I usually pretty say the exactly thing, I apologize for staring and just explain I was zoning out..because like I said- I don't mean to!! Unfortunatly not everyone was always so willing to accept.

Re: Staring problems

This is funny! Today on the subway a girl was staring at me--I kept glancing at her to see if she was still staring and each time, her eyes were still on me! I thought maybe I had boogers or something---I wasn't ready to fight her, I just assumed I had something on my face!

I do it a lot too and then get embarrassed when they catch me.
