How big of a rug?
What size rug should I get that would be a good size for under the dining room table, making sure to cover the chairs when they move?

I've been wondering the same.. Not sure if there's an actual guideline for this, but I would think you would need to allow about 2' on each side of the table to accommodate chairs (if you don't want them hanging off the rug).

I think I was told 8X10 when I was researching.
I believe this is the size rug we have and it has worked out great.

Pull all your chairs out and measure around them. That's what I plan on doing...
