What do you have in your upstairs hallway?

What do you have in your upstairs hallway?
We live in a colonial so upstairs is the hallway, off of which 3 bedrooms and a bathroom come out. The space is bare. We don't even have a hallway runner (we removed the one that came with the house).
Anyway, since the space is empty, sound is magnified which makes things difficult with a 12 month old with bionic hearing.
What do you have in your hallway? What should i put there besides a runner? Pictures? (we have plaster walls)
ETA: Can i see pics if you have them?
