Should I stay team green

Tomorrow night is my Level 2 and I'm DYING to know the sex of the baby but on the other hand I'm DYING for it to be a surprise, DH feels the same way.

My WHOLE family is just telling me to find out.

I have a feeling if we hold out the whole "IT'S A..." at the time of delivery will be amazing, but I still have a little piece of me that's telling me to find out.

Ugh I'm so torn. Help me out girls!

Re: Should I stay team green

I don't get the whole "Surprise' thing -
What? Like it's NOT a surprise at 20 weeks ??

I feel like finding out the sex @ 20 weeks is an "extra" bonus during pregnancy........like, you get that excitement of finding out 1/2 way through, and then you get that excitement of HAVING the baby at the end ..........

This was our rationale too. But if you really want to stay Team Chat Icon, don't let your family talk you into finding out!!

Re: Should I stay team green

I am on the fence myself but this is my 3rd....my level 2 is this week as well. I loved not finding out out and am afraid I will regret it if I did find out. Most of my reasons for finding out - are practical but nothing that can't wait until baby is born. Like decorating and painting a room, if it is another sex - I can start getting rid of of stuff now, etc. I just know the practical reasons are much harder to do when you have three kids and will have much house construction going on soon and probably when baby may be first born so should I just do it now? And part of me finds it much harder to wait now that I am on my 3rd and everyone wants me to find out and I have 2 of the same sex already.

If it is your first - I say go for the big surprise at the end based onmy experience. Honestly, I didn't with my first 2 and loved it and glad I waited. Most people I know who didn't find out the first times and then did in later pregnancies have been telling me they kind of regret it and found it was so much better to wait. Level 2 - is just a sono but when the baby is here and the announcement - there is nothing like it.

Re: Should I stay team green

These are my reasons for not being surprised.

1. it only could be a girl or a boy - if it could be 10 different things i probably wouldnt find out lol- to me not big enough of a surprise to not be prepared for either one. I just could not see my little girl wearing green or yellow

and 2. I just hate surprises - i am just the type of person who wants to know everything. and i think it would be a great thing during pregnancy to find out

but i give the people who stay green so much self control and a lot of credit and dont let anyone try to talk you out of it!

Re: Should I stay team green

In my opinion there is a big difference between finding out at the 20 week "its a _____surprise and then the out comes the baby and "its a" ____surprise. At 20 weeks you still have 20 weeks to go and if you know (which is of course fine) its no longer a surprise you know what I mean? Do what you think you really want? You could always wait and then decide to find out later on if your still on the fence?

Re: Should I stay team green

I went back and forth on this for a while too, but ultimately I've decided that I want to know. That's what's right for me, but don't let us or your family influence what you and DH want to do.

My reasoning was that I felt I could better prepare knowing what the gender is; I wouldn't be limited to only buying unisex all the time. Also, I want to be able to start calling the baby by name. I feel like knowing while I'm still PG will help me and DH bond with the baby and let us get to know our DS or DD a little sooner.

As for finding out at 20 weeks or at birth, well either way it's going to be a surprise!! I figure it this way, there are so many other things that you can still be surprised about at the birth. Like what color eyes? Will they inherit the family nose? How big will they be? Will they have a head full of hair? It's not like knowing the sex is going to "give it all away"; there's still plenty that's a mystery until you actually see your baby!!

Team green! I'm almost 12 weeks and I'm sure I'll waiver, but I really really hope I can make it till the end. I don't know why, but I've always wanted it to be a surprise. I want my husband to have that moment where he goes out and tells our parents "It's A" I also really think it's the only surprise in my life that I won't be able to figure out early. I seriously am the worst snoop ever and always find out things people plan to surprise me with beforehand.

It's not that it's not a surprise half way through, but I think the anticipation just builds for the next 20 (or so) weeks which makes the surprise super exciting.

I am approaching 35 weeks and have remained team green. At my Level II I asked my husband 1 last time if he wanted to find out and he said no (even though I knew he wanted to). Green and yellow are far from my favorite colors however I did not register for many clothes or pajamas. I figure when the baby is born my mom will be more than happy to shop for gender specific clothing for the first couple of weeks. I even plan on going 3 weeks before and choosing 1 girl and 1 boy coming home outfit.

I am so excited that I will be finding out soon. IMO this is the best surprise and reveal (at the birth) EVER!!!

I also wanted to say that some of my family and most of my friends were not thrilled with me not finding out but you know what it's my choice. Don't let anyone pressure you, do what you and your DH want!!!

Re: Should I stay team green

We are going to be team green because the pregnancy was a surprise and we want to keep it going.

There is something about hearing it for the first time when the baby comes out, that seems amazing to me.

Some people don't like the idea of neutral items and I'm the opposite. I HATE the idea that if people know what it is, we'll be flooded with pink or blue. Plus people will buy way too many outfits that you will never be able to put your kid in before they outgrow it.

These days everyone knows what you're having and what you're gonna name it -- by the time the kid is born the only thing you don't know is it's weight and length. Chat Icon

We like that our family will be waiting to hear what the baby is and the name. But that's just us.

If you can handle the wait -- try and hold off!

Re: Should I stay team green

For me, I can't imagine anything more exciting or emotional than finding out in the delivery room. I also think the excitement of finally finding out helped me get through a long (failed) induction and c-section.

I'm not a planner and I don't really mind the neutral clothing. We got so many boy clothes as gifts after DS was born anyway. I don't think I heard one negative comment from anyone about our decision to stay Team Green. Everyone was so supportive.

Re: Should I stay team green

I found out with DD and I have to say....it didn't feel like a big surprise at the time. At one sono....the tech said it's most likely a girl and then it was confirmed at the next appointment. It was kind of a let down. I was extremely excited about it....but it's not like that big moment in the delivery room.
Im having twins now and people think Im nuts not finding out. But I figured this is it for us and its the last chance for that big surprise.
A delivery room nurse once told me the look on parents faces who don't know the sex when their child is born is so different than the looks on the faces of the people who found out.

Re: Should I stay team green

I'm 25 weeks and on team green. I originally wanted to find out, but DH didn't. Now, I'm SO glad we didn't. It's kind of fun guessing.

I originally didn't b/c (1) I like knowing (now it's not a big deal); (2) I hate yellow and green (but that's just clothes and they'll be out of that soon enough); and (3) I didn't want to think of multiple names (but that turned out to be a blessing, because I didn't want to tell ppl our names and now I can say we have no idea b/c we don't know the gender - even though we already decided one for both sexes Chat Icon )

Don't let ppl try to convince you otherwise if you decide team green - we got SO much pressure, but that also gives us satisfaction (b/c we're odd, lol).

I am 8 weeks and planning to stay team green up until the very end! I really have no issues with neutral stuff or planning ahead for either. My parents support our decision but my husband's family are difficult about everything, including us wanting to be surprised. I say if you really want to wait, don't let anyone talk you out of it!

This is my 3rd time being team green. I wouldn't have it any other way. To me, it's not as exciting when you already know. It's like yeah, she had the baby. Not, what did she have, what did she have? But that's me!

Same here. It was so exciting finding out when my first DC was born. And for me, it's so much more exciting hearing from expecting friends & family who are surprised. You hear that the mom to be is in labor and there is nothing like that anticipation waiting to hear what they have.

It's tough staying team green, because your choices are limited but i think it's worth it.
