What do you put under furniture?

I have a couple of things that scratched the floor at our old house, and would like to prevent this at our new house...

I'm familiar with the circles you put under chair legs, but what about larger items like a file cabinet (the bottom is rough), and large chairs (with a large round base that swivels)?

The area rug won't be big enough to be underneath everything.

Thanks! So just buy felt and cut to size? Regular fabric store I'm assuming? I would need about 24" wide..

i buy the multi-size packages of felts @ BBB. we have them under the dining room table, the couch feet, the china cabinets, etc.
