cruise from NY?
anyone cruise from NY before? DH and I have never been on a cruise before, we would like to go on one, but keep costs kinda low... either we go on one that leaves from florida for 4 nights in the caribbean (key west and cozumel....and the extra money would go towards airfare to get to miami) or go on one that leaves from NY for 8 nights (stops at turks and caicos and bahamas - a little more but no air needed) but i wanted to get some experience on if you've cruised before, if the NY cruise is a good option... TIA!

Re: cruise from NY?
Is the 8 night on the miracle? We went on this one last April and booked again for may 2011. It was the best cruise we ever went on. Loved it. The sea days were relaxing and the nights were so fun. If this is the cruise you are thinking about you will love half moon cay. The most beautiful beach ever. Grand turn wad so fun. You dock in margaritaville which has a huge pool right on the beach.

Re: cruise from NY?
Go from NY so you can pack your heart out. I've left from Manhattan, Brooklyn, and will be departing from Bayonne in a couple of months. Such a quick & easy departure. I assume the NY one is going to Grand Turk, if so, I love the swim up bar at Margaritaville. The possible aggravation of flying to FL for a 4 night cruise wouldn't be worth it for me.

Re: cruise from NY?
I have cruised out of NY 3 times before, all out of Bayonne actually
I have been on 7 night and 12 night cruises.
Its really so easy, its a quick trip and you can pack as much as you can fit in your car!

Re: cruise from NY?
Tomorrow will be the thirty day countdown for me to cruise out of New york! I have gone on cruises before but never out of Brooklyn. I am going to Antigua, St. Lucia, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. We fly back from Puerto Rico. That part is a pain considering I hate flying but at least it's only one way. It is 8 days seven nights and the price was insane!

Re: cruise from NY?
I did the Norwegian Dawn out of NYC to Miami,Cape Canaveral and the Bahamas. I also did another Norwegian cruise ( I forget the ship's name) to Bermuda. It is such an EASY and fun way to travel. I definitely recommend it.

I'm going on a cruise in two weeks out of Bayonne. From what I understand the parking area is very safe and there is a guard there 24/7. It's $19/day which you have to pay before you park.

Re: cruise from NY?
we went on one out of BK in June...AMAZING....the dock itself is ULTRA congested once you get close to it by car...but once you're in it's beyond easy...we went with a toddler and are thinking of doing it again bc it was just sooo easy and enjoyable!

Re: cruise from NY?
We have cruised out of the piers in NYC (NCL Dawn to the Bahamas) and from Bayone, NJ (Celebrity Summit to Bermuda). There is a secure lot in Bayone. I preferred the NJ port to the NY much much more. In the NY port I felt like cattle. There was no where to sit when waiting to board, but in NJ there were places to sit. Check out cruisecritic.com their chat boards have tons of info and the people there are very nice.

Re: cruise from NY?
We cruised on Carnival out of NY in May 2008 and were are going out of NY again next year.
We love it! You don't have to worry about flying especially great when you have kids.
We just drove right in and went on the ship. Perfect!

Re: cruise from NY?
I've never cruised out of anywhere but NY! It's SO convenient, but unfortunately limited. If you haven't been to the places the NY cruise is going, definitely take that one! Save the ones leaving from Miami for another time.

Re: cruise from NY?
I've done 2 Princess cruises out of NY and it is SO awesome. We're considering a 3rd for next June...even though it is the same places we've been before, we don't care. Leaving out of NY is SO easy. Since we live in Manhattan we just hop in a cab and Go! We're at the dock in 20 minutes and in our room in 45! Can't beat that. Plus, flying is always such a hassle.

Re: cruise from NY?
When I am interested in cruising, I will explore on expedia and then call an agent to book and find out price. I have cruise NCL about 6 times. I really enjoy their freestyle cruising without any assigned dining times. If you are interested in sailing NCL, you can call my agent, his name is Todd and his info: Todd Sheldon ¦ Personal Cruise Consultant [email protected] 877.416.9722 Ext. 4274
He is good b/c even once I have booked, he emailed me 3x to let me know the prices dropped and he adjusted the room rate!
I don't have any experience with the other cruise lines, my husband doesn't want to go if they don't have the freestyle dining, we feel we are on vacation and we want to eat when we get around to it. I have been on 3 cruises out of NY and I have taken NCL on 3 european cruises and had a great time. Good Luck!
