Anyone ever rent with option to buy?
What was your experience? Is it a waste, is it expensive, is it a great experience?
I've been thinking about this since it doesn't seem likely that we can get a loan.

We were considering this too. A friend of ours did this OOS, and they got a great deal on their place. I think it is silly that you can try on clothes, test drive a car, etc, but buy a house just on a few minutes of being in it....i like the RTO option, just in case the house/area is not right, you can move without having to sell.

we are renting with the option to buy.
we sat w/ a mortage company before we started renting to get an idea of what we would be paying if we owned the house.
this is the conclusion we are coming to
if you are able to afford TWO TIMES the amount in rent a month , and be able to save to buy the house, then its worth it.
if we do buy this house part of our rent will go towards the house.
ETA: it really will give you a sense of owning a home. sometimes i forget we dont own it. yeah we haven't painted but we have done so much work to it, that we might as well have owned it already! ha ha
