another oil question

the home we are buying has oil heat. the burner is OLD and gas is not an option as there are no lines.

anyhoo, Just wondering how much your oil bill is, how often you fill up. and what you keep your heat at during the day/night. I'm so nervous about what our heating bill is going to be I have 2 babies and can't keep the house too cold plus we are home all day

It sounds like you moved into our house!!!!

We have a split that's 1600 sf. 3 bedrooms and a really old burner. Gas is not an option for us either because the lines are too far away.

I work but my MIL baby sits my kids so someone is home all day. During December, January, February and March, we get 1 delivery a month! We keep the heat on 70 at night and 65 during the day. We get a lot of sun in our family room so it really heats up during the day but the bedrooms get very cold at night and with the babies, even if the heat is on 70, the bedrooms are still only about 68.

Be careful with whatever oil company you go with and make sure you get a service contract!!!! When we first moved in, we signed a contract with General b/c they had the best price and offered a free service contract. When we had a problem with our burner, they came to fix it and the technician told us our burner was too old and wouldn't last and we had to get a new one. Next thing we knew, we got a bill for service!! Turns out, they said our burner didn't meet their standards for the free service contract!! I found out from several people that general likes to do this. Scare you into buying a new burner. Anyway, 4 years later, we have the same burner.

Re: another oil question

If you have an old burner, you might want to consider replacing it. It will save you money in the long run because a new burner will run more efficiently. We replaced ours last August and over the year since we've had we've used less gallons of oil.

We normally keep the house chilly. 64 during the day and around 61 at night. But we have a baby coming so I have no idea how that will change the temps.
