flying with a toddler...a few questions

we are flying to florida in a few days and i have a few questions...i am VERY nervous about the flight being its DD first time flying and shes only 2.5

we want to bring her carseat on the plane...is there any thing special we have to do? or just show up with it?

we want to check our travel system stroller...any advice? do they charge extra for this?

also being that airlines are so strict now can i bring playdough on the plane? markers? what other toys did you bring?

If you bought a seat for her, you don't need to do anything special-just bring the car seat.

We've flown a bunch with both kids and never had to pay to check strollers-we check them at the gate.

I don't know about playdoh-but I probably wouldn't because it seems messy for a plane. I would bring markets, a DVD player if you have one. Stickers and a doodle.

As the PP said if you bought her a seat then you just bring your car seat.

We always gate check our stroller. When we get to the gate we go to the counter and tell them we are checking a stroller. They put a tag on the stroller and give you a receipt. Then you just wheel it down to the plane. Fold it up before you enter the plane and leave it there.

We bring markers, coloring books, snacks, stickers, magna doodle, dvd player, snacks and more snacks.

With a 2.5 year old, I might even suggest that you check your car seat. You can either check it for free when you check in or gate check it. They can give you a big clear bag to put it in.

We just went to Florida a couple months ago and checked both our car seats... they were fine both ways. They don't charge you to check the car seats. The reason I suggest checking the car seat is that if you put DD in the car seat on the plane, her feet are definitely going to be kicking the seat back of the person in front of her. I flew with DS to Vegas when he was 18 months in his car seat and I had such a hard time with him kicking the seat in front of him. Luckily I had a very understanding person in front of me. But that could get extremely annoying. DS was almost 3 when we just flew and when he sits in the seat without the car seat his feet don't touch the person in front of him.

For the stroller, I would gate check it. This way you can put DD in it as you go through the airport. Then they can give it right back to you once you land.

And all I can say is that our portable DVD player was a LIFESAVER!!!!!
