Need advice - URGENT

So I found this stray dog this weekend - he is soooooo sweet - happy - young - trained...so cute....

I can't find his owners - the shelters dont want to take him - I have called everywhere (but if you have any suggestions Ill listen!)

My husband doesnt want to keep the dog - I am 7 mo. pregnant and its just too much right now....

what if no one wants to take him - what do I do with him?!?!?

I went through this very thing last year. As irishbride (Lisa), she will tell you because she and her husband are the wonderful people who took the dog we found!

I searched everywhere! No one was looking for her and I came to the conclusion that if no one was looking for this beautiful animal, then they werent worthy of getting her back. I brought her to the vet and there she told me she had a chip in her. Although, her chip wasnt registered so it couldnt lead us back to owners they were able to tell me where she came from... a pet store in Flushing. After talking to the pet store owner, she was able to give me the name and number of the people who had originally bought her. After getting in touch with them, I found out they actually gave her away to other people who were the people who eventually "lost" her. At this point , I decided to try to find a better home for her. I posted on liw and a couple of other boards I went on first to see if someone wanted her. Thank god Lisa and her husband came through and now she is in the most loving of homes!!! I couldnt be happier!

Before that though I called North Shore but they told me they werent accepting at the time. I also called a few NON KILL shelters on the island. My last resort was the aspca and they told me if she passed some sort of behaviorial tests, they would never put her down but in all honesty, I didnt trust that. So I was ecstatic to find this couple on here!

Did you call local vets to ask if someone was missing a dog?? I called them all, even local groomers. Call EVERYWHERE! You may get lucky! Good luck!

put up flyers! i know there are so many no-kill shelters...there has got to be one that would take her.

Maybe you could hang up posters with its picture "Dog Found"

Call the ASPCA, I dont think they can turn down a dog.

if you dont want him, see if someone else you know will tka ehim. or someone here.

I am making fliers now.
I called ALL sorts of places - no one seems to be taking dogs.

Maybe I can convince my hubby to keep him...i dont know....

Did you ask the vet if he had a chip in him?? If he does and its registered, you have found his owners!

I WISH I could take him but we cannot have dogs in our building, or else I'd take hiim in a heartbeat!!

I agree , try to put up those flyers and hopefully someone will find their pup!!

That is weird, when a stray dog showed up on my steps I called the shelter immediately - II knew that would be the first place I would look if I lost Ebony.

They took him and I was able to call and find out if his owner showed up (he did, about an hour later). Shelters are supposed to take the dog for a certain amount of time, since that is the FIRST place people look for a lost dog. Then if not claimed they will put it up for adoption (I think after 2 weeks?). Then, if after another 2 weeks no one claims the dog, he is destroyed. BUT...you can keep checking in on the dog and if no one claims him you can save him!!!

If you are in Town of Hempstead, the SHelter is in Wantagh. I don't know about other Town shelters, but that is the best place to put a lost dog.

Aw, he's too cute. If we were allowed to have pets, I'd offer to take him.

We found a dog several months ago. We called the pound who then called the vet (he had a rabies tag but that was it) who got in touch with the owners. He was home 24 hours after we found him. So, does he have any tags?

aww he is soooo cute! Hopefully you can find a loving home for him or keep him. He looks precious!
I would take him but no can do, I already have my own puppy....well she no longer is a puppy (7 yrs) but I still call her that
