Re: speech at 9 months

I think the basis behind the drama that always ( ALWAYS! ) comes out in these posts is that it is great to hear amazing things like how smart your chidl is.... WHEN it's YOUR child.
For the most part, no-one else wants to hear about it ( notice, I said for the most part) ...And sorry if that is harsh , it's the truth. I don't neccesarily feel that way about it, but I think I know enough about people to realize if I posted something like" My 2 week old sat up unassisted....Does yours? " ...It would be a way for me to brag and not look like bragging. ( Sorry again, this is an EXAMPLE). I'm not directing this at the OP, NOR saying this is a bragging post AT ALL...Just simply showing how it can get misconstrued in a more straight forward example.
Most kids don't have words at 9 months, most kids dont roll over at 2 months, most kids dont walk at 9-10 months, so when a post comes up and the parent is proud of their baby, it makes others insecure and just plain nervous about THEIR baby. Its natural...and with a big group of mom's..inevitable!
Bottom line is no one is gonna be proud of your baby like YOU are, and so unless you word something perfectly..."someone" is gonna get upset/worried/annoyed etc....
WHO CARES?
I have to say I agree with this too!
But it's sad because a post like this is the whole point of LIF! We talk about our children. We discuss what they do, what they eat, their ups, their downs. If people cant handle a simple convo w/o getting jealous or uncomfortable then they shouldn't partake! It's not like I was BRAGGING that my DD was saying supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (SP!!!). She's saying MAMA and DADA and BABA! I don't get why it got so out of hand! Theyre first baby words!
I think I'm going to chalk it all up to the freakin HEAT!

Re: speech at 9 months
Holy crap. I think this is just a perfect shining example of how toxic this board has become. Is it really THAT hard to be happy for someone else's baby and their accomplishments, without getting so defensive?
Yael doesn't talk! She is 12 months old and just like Alex, she's a late bloomer. I don't have a problem with it, and it certainly doesn't make me defensive to hear and see other babies her age or younger speaking. I find the differences in babies so incredibly fascinating, and think to myself, WAY TO GO, for the babies who are advanced!
There was a little girl who was in the infant center with Alex. She was speaking in 2-3 sentences and walking at 7 months! It was absolutely incredible! Alex on the other hand... she was late, but OMG, once she started, it never stopped

Re: speech at 9 months
Not a parent YET but my mother tells me I was saying a lot of words at 9 months and talking in full sentances by the time I could walk (12 months?)
My cousin on other hand did not talk for a long time, they joke it was 3 yrs (I assume they are kidding as she never had a speech delay...anyway she is gifted, a Columbia graduate etc.
My point is, it is possible, and also not talking early is not an indication that anything is wrong with a child!

I personally wouldn't say 'at' was a word, until she said CAT - but that's ME. (and why I think maybe I'm too hard on my poor kid !!) Regardless, I can appreciate WHY the OP would call it a word b/c obviously her kid is associating "at" as the CAT - she just can't SAY the "C" yet ..........
so children or adults with speech impediments arent speaking or dont have those words that they cannot correctly pronounce?
sorry, dont hate - just playing devil's advocate while my non-speaking 2 month old naps

Re: speech at 9 months
Wow I'm sorry some people offended you. I guess maybe it's hard to believe something you're not personally used to? And it's hard to comment on whether it's a real "word" or not if you don't hear the child or see the context in which it's used.
Like I said previously, my daughter was an early talker. Her first word at 7 months old was "Tat!" She scremed that out while petting the cat. So yeah, I count that as a word. She said it everytime she saw, touched, or wanted near the cat. One of her famous early sentences was 'muck in my pup." The kid wanted milk in her cup. She didn't say it perfectly, but it had only one meaning. By 18 months (prob earlier) everyone could clearly understand everything she was saying.
I thought this was normal seeing as she was my first. It shocked me when I was introduced to other children her age & I couldn't understand them or they didn't speak. Now my DS isn't a real talker. He's 15 months & his list of words is mama, dada, baba, anana (banana), bubleh (bubble), yum, & no. Nothing really extraodinarly at all for a child his age. I get nervous all the time because what *I* personally am used to is an early talker & it feels to me like DS may never speak.
I've had it both ways so I can see it both ways. No matter what, just because it's not what you're used to, doesn't mean the mother of an "advanced child" is lying or exaggerating. I've always been nervous to be honest about the ages my kids hit certain milestones because they were pretty early on certain things & I always wondered if I'd be caleld a liar

Re: speech at 9 months
Some kids talk early. Some kids walk early. Some kids eat better than others. Some kids sleep better than others. Some kids potty train earlier than others. Some lose the paci when they are babies - others when they are 4 years old. Some feed themselves. Some do not.
The list could go on and on and on.
I know it's hard not to compare, but as a mother whose child was speech delayed I have become a pro at it. I had to otherwise I would drive myself crazy.
I don't care if Tom, Dickk (BTW, LIF Bleeped out the D.I.C.K LMAO!), and Harry are talking in 12 word sentences, and my son is only talking in 3-4 word sentences. I KNOW that he will talk. I know that some day he will eat something other than chicken nuggets. I know that I will not send him to college in diapers.
If everyone is just confident in their own parenting and appreciate their children for what they are, instead of comparing, we could all just get along.
I will say, that when I first read this post I thought "Give me a break" but then I had to realize that some kids DO talk earlier than others, and that is really good for them! I hope I can say the same thing about Tyler in a few weeks!

Re: speech at 9 months
DD is 9 1/2 months. She says
Mama Dada Baba Bye Hi CCCC for our Cat Cosmo A ton of babble and lots of sounds...she repeats tones.
She knows the word Eat means to eat, she gets all excited and starts to chew
