Is it worth getting brazilian straightening

if I don't plan on blowing out my hair straight frequently? I have curly hair, which I like, but I'm bored with it. I had JHS already and grew it out. I was thinking of doing the brazilian but I really don't have time to blow it out except for special occasions. It doesn't dry straight naturally right? What do you think?

Re: Is it worth getting brazilian straightening

I just got the bkt at IB hair club i did the type c. they told me it would not come out totally straight but it is pretty straight. I have curly hair that never dried right curly so i had to blow dry it which took me about 15 to 20 min. I can actually leave it now and it will dry relatively straight. maybe one wave in the back. today i let it air dry for about 30 min then i quickly dried it with my brush about 5 min and it looks good.

I usually wash it every other day, but i like to work out everyday and being that they say avoid sodium i have been just rinsing it and a little conditioner on the days i don't wash it.

Also i asked about salt water like at the beach and they said to avoid it because it will make it come out faster. Anybody had an experience with this?

mine came out pretty straight if i let it air dry in the very beginning, but it grows out with time and more waves/curls form. it really only takes 5 minutes to blow dry it straight though, which isn't a lot of time in the grandscheme of things. even if you don't use a brush, run your fingers through it with the dryer and that should work!

I get this done all the time, my sister is a pro, and tried many diff products on me. (I'm her guinea pig lol) Love it! it makes my curly hair soft silky shiny strong and smooth, not stick straight, just a slight wave to it when it dries naturally, I LOVE IT!

Ocean water killed it, washed away the keratin that was keeping it smooth. I also had to use a shampoo that was sodium chloride free.

But totally worth it, the results are gorgeous, healthy looking and with care wash out after 3 months. So your hair grows out of it gently and always looks natural. Totally worth it. I waiting till DS is 3 months before I get it done again, the chemicals have not been studied with regards to BF or pregnancy so my sister didn't recommend it for a while. I'm dying for a treatment!

ETA: the brand she ended up keeping, which we liked the best for its gentleness, is the Coppola, keratin complex. Always ask cause some of them are super stinky and require major ventilation during application.

Re: Is it worth getting brazilian straightening

Ladies,

I do my own BKT! I had it done once at a salon and after being cooped up in there for several hours, shelling out major $$, I said to myself forget this. I will research it and do it myself.

I can post the info on here GLADLY. Just let me know. I have a few ladies who have messaged me and they LOVE the results and couldn't believe how easy it was.

As for the beach, YES, it will strip the keratin from your hair.

and you have to avoid any styling/shampoo/conditioner with sodium chloride.

I had gotten the JHS for years but hated how flat my hair became (loved that it was curl free though) and the grow out process.

The BKT is the best thing I've done for my hair. it's so strong, healthy, shiny and long! I haven't had to get as many haircuts because of it.

I would love to know how you do this on your own as well...I have been thinking about getting BKT and am hesitant to spend so much $$ at a salon.

Re: Is it worth getting brazilian straightening

Here you go ladies!

The stuff I use is Encanto Brazilian Keratin Treatment.

All you need is a blowdryer, a flat iron that heats up to at least 400 degrees and a well ventilated area (the stuff is stinky, especially when the heat is applied)

The set you get includes a clariyfing shampoo, keratin treatment and the conditioner.

From start to finish, and I have really long hair (almost to my coolie), it took my about 2.5 hours. This treatment is the one day treatment. so there is no wiating period once it's all done. You can wash and do whatever.

I have done it myself probably 5-6 times and I still have more left in the bottle for about 2 more treatments. The set cost me only $59.99!!!!!

I researched this one, along with all the other high end BKTs and this got great reviews on long hair forums.

It's called Encanto. here is the link to their facebook page.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Encanto-Brazilian-Keratin-Treatment/143636418411

you can get it on ebay and then send them an email and they will send you a 5% rebate.

I also spoke with the owner at Encanto and he said he'd give me wholesale pricing if I got 6 people to purchase it. He'd give it to me for $46/each kit.

All we'd have to do is send the money via paypal and he'd mail it to one of our homes and then we can each pick it up or have it dropped off.

if anyone is interested, let me know..
and if you need any help!

Thanks!Chat Icon

I'm one of the ladies mentioned above. I just did it on Friday and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!!! I've gotten so many compliments on it and I can't believe how easy it was and how much money I saved!!!!! I paid $60 for the kit and I bought a new flat iron because mine wasn't hot enough. I actually got one in Target for $35 that goes up to 462 degrees. So, less than $100 and I still have enough left to do at least 2, maybe 3 more times!!!!

That's great that he offered you a discount!!!

Re: Is it worth getting brazilian straightening

quick question....do any of you ladies that have done BKT have thin hair? I do have curly/frizzy hair but it is thin and I am just concerned about it looking really limp and thin if I do this.

Re: Is it worth getting brazilian straightening

i'm going to have it done with my mom's hairdresser. i know it won't be the cheapest route, but i want to see what she does / observe how she puts it on my hair.

if it looks like i can do it, and i like the results, i will DEFINITELY be doing it myself.

thanks for the information

it actually felt like it thickened my hair, its almost like a coating over it, but it doesn't weigh it down.

Just note about doing it yourself, be really careful many of the products that don't require waiting time after you use it, have a lot of formaldehyde. Its terrible on your lungs, not to mention stinks.

It is very easy to do but just not on yourself. My sister and I do it on each others hair. It would be too difficult to get the back cause you have to make sure you get enough on the hair then dry it then flat iron it....but if you have someone who you can work with it is super cheap to do it at home.

We buy the stuff for 200 and it has lasted us for a year and a half
