Creative Mammas come in! centerpiece ideas needed

I'm doing the Mod Monkey theme for DS' 1st bday party. They sell centerpieces but theyre kind of ugly. Since its hard to find the Mod Monkey stuff, I thought about going with the theme colors (light blue and yellow) and creating some type of centerpiece for each table. I dont want to break the bank, but I do want it to be cute (and maybe even edible). We're not doing favors, so I was even thinking if I did something with candy or food that guests could take home?? Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm also going to have balloons at each table, so I'd like something that I could tie the balloons to.

Any ideas? Or any pics of what you did as centerpieces as DC's birthday parties? Ughh I'm so not creative AT ALL Chat Icon Chat Icon

What about a glass bowl (either square or fishbowl-like) and fill it with light blue and yellow jelly beans and have light blue and yellow balloons coming out of the center. And maybe you can make or find a pic of the mod monkey face and print it on large stickers to stick on the balloons.

Maybe on a few tables you can put this stuffed monkey holding the balloons (I think the monkey is like $20 so it would be expensive to do every table - depending on how many you're having). DD has this and loves it, then you can do a game to take home the centerpiece.

very cute idea. this is sort of what I was leaning towards doing.

Two questions - what would I anchor the balloons down to under the jelly beans? And how would I let guests know that they can take the jelly beans in the centerpiece?

The jelly beans should hold down the strings inside the bowl... or just get those little bags filled with sand (they hav them where you get the balloons) and stick that down into the jelly beans.

If you just want them to take the jellybeans, you can pass out a little scoop and candy bags at the end and let them scoop out the jelly beans into the bags to take home.
