Prepping for maternity leave (VENT)
Can I just vent for a second? I have a week and a half to go until my leave and I think my junior guy has lost his marbles... I trained this guy to handle my stuff when I was on my first maternity leave 2.5 yrs ago and developed him even further when I got back such that he was promoted to VP a year ago. I'm still a level above him but we back each other up when we're out as we basically cover the same sector. However, he's developed this huge chip on his shoulder such that he knows everything, doesnt want to consult those who know a HECK of a lot more than him on the sector (me and my boss) and has told my boss (head of the freakin group!) that he's "not interested" in covering my stuff while I'm out. In other words, my boss (the only other one who knows this stuff) is going to have to find a way to do my job in addition to his million other responsibilities? I already told my boss that's ridiculous and there's no way he can do it all unless he pushes this stuff down but at the end of the day, he has to decide who gets it done. I guess I'm just thoroughly disappointed in this junior guy because I thought much better of him. We've always had a great relationship. Not sure how he thinks this will advance his career but he sends snarky mass emails (I actually just had to rebutt one where he told people to consult him and not me or my boss on an issue we specialize in!) and is just IMO acting completely unprofessional and now I'm feeling horrible about going on maternity leave and leaving my boss, also a close friend, in the lurch
Anyone else dealing with this nonsense?

Re: Prepping for maternity leave (VENT)
Sorry that must be really frustrating for you. I'm not dealing with that but dealing with other stuff that is annoying me at work. I'm almost 34 weeks, months ago I asked my boss if I should be training anyone and who b/c I wanted to get started on that early. She told me no need...that she and this other girl could handle it all and know how to do it all. Well just recently I've been getting slammed with emails from her to train 2 other women in my work. I'm just annoyed she springing this on me so last minute when I wanted to get started on this months ago. Feeling a lot of stress right now to teach others my work plus get all my work done.

I dont understand people like that and I am sorry that you have to deal with it- but maybe its better that the boss sees his true colors.

Re: Prepping for maternity leave (VENT)
Ugh, annoying.
I am almost 33 weeks and need to train my replacement but there is NO TIME. I am not even exaggerating, we have NO TIME to sit down for even 10 minutes to go over things. I am trying to create a manual for her for when I'm out but really-no time to do that either. I am truly stressing about this. Plus I just hired another team member that I will need to train before I leave. PLUS like a fool I signed up for a 3 day seminar when I'll be 36 weeks b/c it will help with a future promotion.
