my son was 9 lbs 8oz and my daughter was 8lbs 10oz... newborn clothes fit them, but not for very long at all.... I mostly used 0-3 months right from the beginning.

I had an 8 pounder ( a little less than what you asked) and she was in newborn clothes for about 2 months.

Aidan was 8lb 8oz and was swimming in 0-3 months clothes (if thats what you mean by newborn size) but not for long in 2 weeks or so they were fitting well.

Re: those who had 8 1/2 + pounders at birth...
DS was 9lb 5oz and he never wore newborn clothes. even the newborn sized diapers were too small. By one month he was fitting into 3-6 month clothes. Everyone including my doctors were shocked that I had such a big baby. The growth sonos can be really inaccurate. I would have some newborn stuff on hand just in case, but keep the tags on.

My son was 9 lbs 7 oz. and he fit nicely in 0-3 months, but not for long. As for diapers, he never wore newborn, he fit right into Size 1 Swaddlers.

my daughter was 9 10 and wore 0-3 months close for about two months or so. I found that some brands fit better that others and some shrank in the dryer. I think carters you have to go up a size and now I dont put any of her clothes from old navy in the dryer.

Hi, I am new here - finally decided to stop lurking and join !!
Anyway, my son was 10lbs, 8 oz. which was a surprise to everyone. The doctor never even measured him bc I carried so small. I had no idea what size he would be at birth- so what a shock !
He wore some newborn stuff and is still fitting into 0-3 months. The 3-6 month size is still a little big on him. He never wore newborn diapers, always size 1 which he is still in but getting ready to move on to 1-2. He is 2 months now, born in March.

Do not go by the sonogram... DD was estimated to be about 9 lbs at our 40 week sonogram and she arrived the following week 7 lbs even!

Re: those who had 8 1/2 + pounders at birth...
Julia was 8lbs 5oz at birth and I had her 2 weeks early cause of preclamsia. I had a sono like a week before I had her and they said she should weigh around 7 lbs at birth....well they were wrong! If I was to have her around my due date she probably would of weighed 10lbs! Julia wore 0-3 mths when she was born, didn't last very long in them.

Talia was 8lbs 4oz ... she didnt really fit into newborn clothes or diapers. We went right to 0-3 clothes and size 1 diapers.

Didn't Kathy (MrsJ) go through this recently? She was measuring at 8 or 9lbs or something...and then her little one was born at under 7lbs?
I would keep the tags on the stuff if it is returnable...you can always send your mom and/or DH to return stuff if it winds up you need to get 3-6 and 0-3 don't fit.

Definitely don't go by what the sonogram says. I was told that Nate was going to be about 8lb 5 oz and he ended up being 10lbs 2oz.
Luckily I bought a newborn and 0-3M outfit. I ended up using the newborn outfit bc it fit. I've found that Carter's clothing tends to run smaller than some other brands.

Re: those who had 8 1/2 + pounders at birth...
Please do not put too much faith in the sono estimates. They told me Claire would be 10+ pounds at 40 weeks. I had her 8 days late and she was only 7lbs 15oz. Honestly it caused me a lot of un-needed stress those last weeks.
