UGH....long vent
So we were 1/2 in contract on a house that we found and fell in love with. We had the accepted offer, the inspection, mortgage approval, our signatures on the contract and on their way back for the seller to sign and we got a call today from the seller's Realtor that they have a higher offer and we need to bring ours up if we want her to sign.
The process on this house has been a nightmare since the get go, but we thought we would ride it out b/c it would be ours at the end of the day. We almost walked away at the beginning and stuck it out.
No we are walking away......starting over with money on the inspection down the drain.
Blah.
ETA: We are in full contract on my co-op that we are selling. Moving in with my parents now that things with buying the house will be delayed. YAY!

Ugh, sorry to hear your house buying woes. Just out of curiousity, why did you do the inspection before you were in contract? I thought it was done after the contract was countersigned.

Re: UGH....long vent
We went through the exact same thing, and were out the $400 or whatever it was for the inspection.
You know what? It ended up being a blessing in disguise, because we found a cheaper house, in move-in condition, that was bigger, in a better neighborhood.
That first house would've needed a ton of work for us to have even been able to move in.
I also have heard since it's gotten broken into a few times.

Re: UGH....long vent
In answer to the inspection question - now they require the inspection be done prior to contract. It stinks b/c you can be out the inspection cost on a house that you can be out bid on. You really have to hope that the sellers will play fair and not take another bid etc during the time between the inspection and the contract....
Another buyers loss - the whole process stinks for the buyer.
To the original poster - so sorry for what you are going through. I do believe what's meant to be will happen. I hope you find something more amazing soon!
