ok i am freaking out.....

My ob just called to tell me that the sono we re-did last week (since our nugget wasn't cooperating the weke before) looks good - the heart, kidneys and spine are all perfect - BUT apparently there "looks like there are some cysts on the brains, which shoudl be ok and will prob be benign since my afp and ultrascreen came back negative" but now she wants me to go see a specialist at St Charles to confirm it...has anyone heard of this or gone through it?

I am 23 weeks tomorrow and so freaked out right now - luckliy dh had the day off and so did I so he is here with me, but

Dr Brenner - likes to be thorough. She probably just wants you to be double checked.

ok, so I have researched a little online and found that most disappear on their own and its unknown why they were there....and less than 1% of babies acutally have a problem....but still.....

edited to add: in case anyone else needs it at any pt - here is a chat bd you can turn to for "real people" who went through it too

I was kinda dumbfounded when she called so I asked a little and she made it seem like not a big deal....but I just called back to ask more too....she is with patients but I left my number....

I am trying to stay pos the more I read, the better I feel (well, kinda, but still) and apparently they are like blisters that can form when liquid gets trapped....they have a low and debatable link to chromosomal abnormalities.....

it just makes me wonder if i did something wrong (maybe I shouldn't have cleaned the bathroom, maybe I shouldn't have done this or that.....)

It is actually VERY normal for babies to have those..it is just that with all of the tests we do now they are seen.
They disappear in a few weeks/months and should be just fine.

I'm sure she is just erring on the safe side of things. I would ask as many questions as you can, but I'm sure it will be ok

I went through/am going through a similar situation. My baby has a cyst on her neck. When they first found it at 15weeks I was given a VERY VERY grim prognosis. I went through all the testing and everything came back negitive. I am now 27 weeks and the cyst is almost completly gone and everything else looks normal.

I want to tell you to relax and everything will be fine but i know that is sooo hard. The waiting is the worst part and I am still waiting and probably won't be able to relax until she is born. I will tell you that going forward you will be monitored so closely and get better care then the average pregnant person gets. If you want to talk or have any questions please FM me. Just try and stay positive and things will be ok.

My friend had that and they went away. Try not to let yourself get too stressed out.

thanks everyone - after sleeping on it for a night and also thinking about it, we have to think for now it is nothing, otherwise, it is no good for us or the baby.....we have no history of downs or other genetic problems in our family, I am under the 35 yr old mark and everything else has been fine inclouding all dev. milestones and the tests we had for downs, spina bifida, etc....we also learned more often than not, fetus' have these, it just may go away before a sono or not ye be present at one and then go away without being diagnosed.....

ok, so I am still convincing myself somewhat.....and will feel better on June 1st when we go, but still!

thanks a million to everyone for their continued support, kind thoughts and for those who shared their own experiences.....the other thing that gets us is that our sono was from last wed (and she called yestrday, so technically, they start to go away at 23 or 24 weeks and even the dr said it could be gone by now....so we could truly be worrying in vain.... )
