what makes your garden grow?
YAY the landscapers came yesterday and cleared up a few patches where I plan to start my fruit/herb/veggie garden!!!!
what items are growing in YOUR garden this year?
do you have anything growing in a raised structure or is everything planted directly into the ground?
my plan is to have planter boxes for the herbs, a tomato vine on the trellis, and then a raised area with tomatoes, zucchini, strawberries (?), lettuces/spinach and I am looking for other suggestions.
we also plan on putting a fruiting tree back there (either apple or cherry)
I can't wait!!!!!

Re: what makes your garden grow?
I have all of my herbs in a planter box, I have a two topsy turvey's (SP?) for tomato's, in the ground we have strawberries, zucchini's, and carrots. Nothing like going out back and picking fruits/veggies, and bringing them in for food. Congrats on your garden

Re: what makes your garden grow?
My kiddos are getting gardening supplies in their Easter baskets this year - including Sweet Basil seeds. I am not 100% certain of what else I will get for them to plant but I'm thinking tomatoes, strawberries, parsley, rosemary, mint and maybe some lettuces. I guess we'll see what they want to do.
As to how our garden will grow.. well they are going to have to do all the research and come up with a plan. I'll update you if they do a good job!

Re: what makes your garden grow?
I have a raised bed garden. This year I am planting:
2 types of heirloom tomatoes zucchini cucumbers pole and bush beans winter squash corn (maybe) lettuce spinach eggplant peppers heirloom melon watermelon pumpkin basil parsley red onions asparagus strawberries
In my herb bed I have these (perennials): oregano sage thyme rosemary
I also have garlic growing that I planted last fall.
We also fruit trees/bushes that we planted a few years ago.
plum (was there when we bought the house) fuji apple gala apple white fig (I would love to also plant a regular fig tree but I don't really have a place for it) white peach white nectarine blueberry raspberry
BTW, unless you get one of those hybrid trees that have two types of apples grafted together, you will need two different types of apples trees to cross pollinate. If not you wont get any apples from them. I'm not sure if cherries are self pollinating or if you need to cross pollinate those too. Good luck!
