Is this something you pay once per year or is it a monthly thing? I can't believe the taxes here!!

Re: property taxes?
Our mortgage lender requires that they pay the taxes, so it's included in our monthly mortgage payment but they pay it to the town twice per year. Hope that makes sense.

no, it does nto have to be included in your mortgage payment. most people do this for the conveneience and because of the insane amount of taxes here, for a lot of people, it's easier just to have it wrapped up into the monthly mortgage instead of owing $4,000 (or more) twice a year.
you can pay twice a year to your town. (you still get a property tax bill twice a year, regardless of how you pay).

Our lender also requires it to be part of our mortgage payment.

Re: property taxes?
I have to check if it's a requirement for us. We have a BofA mortgage. This is how we have it set up now, and it's like $700.00 a month or something like that tacked onto our mortgage payment.
I'm going to look into our options though-----if it's NOT a requirement to pay it monthly, I would rather just throw that money into savings and pay it the twice a year.
This would also allow us to pay a little more a month towards our mortgage.
Damn LI taxes.

Re: property taxes?
Suffolk I believe you have 2 payments a year.
In Nassau, we pay 4 times a year...2 payments are General taxes and 2 payments are School taxes.
Most mortgage companys make you escrow taxes initially but you can request to stop escrowing taxes after a couple of years. that's what we did and now pay them on our own.

Re: property taxes?
We pay them twice a year - They are due in Jan and May
We live in Suffolk
Its easier for us because DH & I both get nice Xmas bonuses and most of it goes to pay the taxes and I use my yearly annuity money to pay the second half. Just works out for us.
