Re: 1 bedroom w a baby....please help
Your apartment is very similar to mine! (Except I don't have a dressing room).
We are putting baby's crib in our bedroom and it's staying there!
We also have a large (very long) living room space and dining room that we use as a foyer (we also have an eat in kitchen).
So the dining room/foyer is going to become baby's space. We're putting our glider there and the baby's playpen. Probably also the swing if it looks right.
We'll be here until baby is about a year old and we won't be making any changes once baby is bigger. HTH!

Re: 1 bedroom w a baby....please help
I lived in a 1 bedroom when I had my twins. What we did was put up bookcases as a divider to give them their own little room. Our bedroom wasnt big enough to put our bed plus the 2 cribs. The only issue we had was if company came over or we wanted to watch tv we would go into the kitchen or our bedroom because the bookshelves didnt offer complete privacy. Unless you make the diningroom into your bedroom so the baby will be behind closed doors.

Re: 1 bedroom w a baby....please help
I would say put the crib in your room for now. If you have trouble with her seeing you, and not wanting to be in the crib you can switch things later on. You could always make the dining area a room for her, and use screens or hang a cable and curtains which would prob work better. The only drawback to the dining area idea is then you have to be quiet at night if your in the living room. That could be annoying. KWIM?

I was in a 1BR and converted my dining area to a nursery with compression walls. Is there any way you can do that?

Re: 1 bedroom w a baby....please help
We are also in a 1 bedroom & are not planning on moving anytime in the near future.
The baby will share a room with us for as long as we are here. Our bedroom is pretty big for a co-op, so at least we don't have to remove any of our current furniture or squeeze baby furniture in somewhere.
The crib will be in an expresso color. We are not doing any baby theme bedding. The sheets will compliment our current decor. DH is redoing the linen closet right outside of our bedroom to include the baby's closet. My dresser will be the changing table.

It cost us about $1k to put up two walls but we thought it was worth it because it really created a separate space for baby. Ours was off our living room too and soundwise, it worked out well too.

We are in a 1 bedroom too and are in the same situation - probably won't move for at least a year until after the baby is born. The crib is all set up in the bedroom and it's going to stay that way until we leave. We really wanted to keep our living room and dining space as is.
I think you will be fine

Re: 1 bedroom w a baby....please help
We lived in a studio when DD was 6-18mo, then a 1bdrm from 18mo to 2.5yo.
With the studio, we had two alcoves so she had one as her area. We cordoned it off with a curtain. Without the wall, we had to be extra quiet after she went to bed.
With the one bedroom, we shared the bedroom. She in her crib and our bed was right across from her. She went to bed earlier than us and would be sound asleep for a couple hours when we went to bed. I would highly recommend this route.
To save space, we had most of her clothes in baskets kept underneath her crib. Her dresses and shirts hung in the closet. We moved to a house when she was 2.5yo and that was due time. Her clothes were getting too big for the baskets, her toys were getting bigger and multiplying, and she was getting too big for the apartment.

Your apt is almost exact to mine except for the dressing area. We are planning on having the baby in our bedroom with us until we move which I hope will be within the first year.

Re: 1 bedroom w a baby....please help
My MIL lives in a similar 1 bedroom with her daughter. So what we did was curtain off the dining room and make a space just for her. She has just a twin bed and a dresser in there, but it works for now. You could try something like that.
