Regular VS Organic Milk
Okay - i have time on this still, but i started wondering about it & talking with Dave about it last night...
For those of you who give regular, plain ole' milk - is there a reason you don't prefer organic (and if it's a price reason - that's a valid reason too!)?
For those of you who GIVE organic milk - is there a particular reason why?
Are there differing health benefits with a specific kind?
Please realize i'm not looking for drama here at ALL (not sure if this type of ?? can get heated) - i just have no idea if there's a difference & your opinions mean more to me than a google search ever could!

I give organic only -
There are no hormones given to the cows, they are fed with grains that do not have pesticides. Yes, it is a little more expensive, but not that much (and I buy two gallons a week, plus a half a gallon of 1% for me and DH). All the stores have their own generic version that I buy.

We've only ever done organic milk and DD's nearly 3. We even did organic formula when I wasn't BF.
I'm a big organic person anyway, so it was a given for me. These days, you CAN find non-organic brands that have no artificial growth hormones or antibiotics used in their cows (they're always marked, promoting that), but I like the certified organic stuff.
But again, I am a big proponent of organic stuff, esp. for DD. Food, cleaning products, beauty & bath products, etc...we're organic as much as possible.
ETA: I agree, the pricing for quality organic milk is reasonable if you shop around...and it's pretty readily available.

This may sound like a strange reason, but we get the organic milk because it seems to last longer.
If you look at the sell by dates on the organic milk, it is always over a month away. So if I have an unopened carton in the fridge, I know it will last a lot longer. Plus, it seems to last longer in general after we open it.
Plus all the other benefits!

Yes, it's ULTRA pasteurized, so it does have a longer shelf-life (unopened).

Too many hormones in regular milk- we all drink organic milk.
Lasts MUCH longer than regular milk.
I swear I can taste a difference.

This is what we buy.
We drink a LOT of milk in my house. I buy 5 gallons a week. There's NO possible way I can afford to buy organic. I also find that organic milk tastes funny, strangely enough...

I'm too lazy to be totally organic, but DD loves milk so I make sure we get organic milk for her. It's really not that much more expensive.
We use regular skim milk for us.

I also only use Organic Milk for hormone and antibiotic reasons, with the extra side benefit that it last longer unopened.

I only give DD soy milk. I wasn't sure if she had a dairy allergy, so I bout Silk Soy milk once and she loved it, so I stuck with it.
Before that I gave her organic milk. Cows (not exclusively) are effing abused to provide us with food. (I eat meat, not a veggie here.) It's really, really awful. I am a big organic person though--I spend a lot on groceries. It's very important to me.
I am highly lactose intolerant, so I have to drink lactose free milk. Not that great, but I am used to it.
ETA: I had to tell DH to only buy DD organic milk. He would come home with those big red top gallons and I would say "No hon, I only give DD organic." Now he's all into it and reads labels and everything.
