TTCer with a travel question
Hi Girls!
First off – congrats to all of you future mommies!!! I hope to be joining you all really soon.
I was hoping you girls might be able to provide a little insight:
DH and I have been TTC and we are hoping I will get PG real soon. We both really like to travel and wanted to plan a summer vacation but DH thinks that if I do in fact get PG this month or next then it wouldn’t be a good idea to travel. I’ve researched a bit and haven’t found anything that says that it is unsafe for a woman to travel in her first trimester.
Have any of you travelled or plan to travel at some point in your pregnancy? If so how far along? And also, how far away would you or will you travel? I was hoping we could get to Tahiti, Fiji or Maldives to do one of those over the water bungalow things because we have always wanted to do that and its not something that IMO would be as enjoyable bringing a baby along, so I figured we had better do it now.
Honest opinions are very much appreciated and welcome.
TIA

Re: TTCer with a travel question
Well, unless it's medically necessary for you to stay home and rest then I don't see a problem w/traveling. Obviously I would have loved to have traveled to somewhere other than NY and Florida, but with both my PG's I flew to FLA when I was 30 weeks PG in August to Disney World, (had a blast and I was huge, almost 11lb babies) and then for my first baby we drove up to NY for a wedding and my baby shower when I was 32 weeks PG. I'd say go travel!!!

Re: TTCer with a travel question
in the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy, DS came with me to:
La Jolla, CA Scottsdale, AZ Chicago, IL Seattle, WA and Miami, FL
needless to say, its totally fine with a normal pregnancy. I would clear it with your OB if you do plan to travel pregnant (they will tell you to walk, drink lots and some will prescribe a childrens tyelnol)
(oh, I am in medical sales, it was the busy time of year)

Re: TTCer with a travel question
Do it!! You'll obviously have to be a little more vigilant about what you eat/drink, but don't deprive yourself of fun, especially in the first trimester.
I went on a cruise to Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize when I was 10 weeks and had no probs whatsoever.
The only other thing to keep in mind is that you might be a total sick-o preggo, you might have terrible morning sickness and general yuckiness, but I cant imagine a better place to feel yucky than the Maldives, etc!
And, as always, check with your dr.

Re: TTCer with a travel question
I went to Mexico when I was 7-8 wks (booked about a week before I got PG) and have traveled quite a bit at various stages of my pregnancies within the continental US. If I were you, I wouldnt hesitate to book a trip but I personally might choose somewhere a little closer than Fiji to be safe.

I have learned from TTC for many many years to not plan and just live your life ... Go on vacation .. Have fun maybe you will conceive there!!!

Re: TTCer with a travel question
Just be wary that there are limitations... for example, you cant go on a cruise after 24 weeks. I found this out last week and Im sad because even though im only 17 weeks now, by the time me and my hubby can actually go I'll be over the 24 weeks
But you said it would be 1st trimester anyway so you are fine. GO and GO SOON before its too late, lol.

Re: TTCer with a travel question
We went to Montreal when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I was just told to drink tons of water and move around as much as I could on the plane to avoid cramping. As long as your doctor okays it then have fun!

Re: TTCer with a travel question
traveling is fine, I would jsut check with your Dr. I would also make sure to take out insurance because you never know how you will be by the time you are ready to travel.
Personally, I wouldnt go out of the country while being PG. Healthcare is just not the same and god forbid i end up having some complications, even just scary cramping or bad dehydration ect. I wouldnt want be out of the US. but that is just my own personal opinion

Re: TTCer with a travel question
Although traveling is normally fine, I am not sure that an OB would okay a 15 hour flight for Tahiti. If there are any complications, you are also hours away from a significant medical facility.
Personally, I would travel, but I would stay a little closer to home.
