Smithtown beaches - Little Africa - 1st birthday?

Has anyone been there recently?

Would it be a nice place for a late July/Early August 1st bday party?

We definitely want an outdoor spot.

My other option would be Hoyt Farm in Commack OR Callahan's Beach in Fort Salonga (but that's my last choice).

it would be SO nice! I have been there for tons of parties....you could decorate it really nicely! Hoyt would be really fun as well but there might be a lot of other parties going on.

I grew up going there, and they def. have enough room, there are gazebos, etc, but I know that the cars need to have a Smithtown Resident sticker, which may cause an issue?

I think it would be great, and I've considered it for my kids' birthdays too. I want to reserve the pavilion and have a joint party - maybe next year.

Please pass along any info you get Chat Icon

I wouldnt do Callahans, only bc on the weekends, its a big hang out for the younger local crowd who are generally drinking and can be rowdy and that the playground is nowhere near the parking and table area.....

thanks Chat Icon
just called and got some info.

Little Africa is now called Schubert Beach.
Permit is $37 if you have 1-50 guests
and $75 if you have 50-100 guests

Parking is free for smithtown residents, $10 for non-residents, BUT you have to buy the passes in advance - there's no one at the gate to sell you the passes.

--------------------------------------------------------

Hoyt Farm is the same permit pricing, but the parking is $7 and you CAN purchase the passes at the gate. There's only 1 spot open for the weekend I had in mind AND the other party we'd be sharing the pavilion with is 300 members of the Sons of Italy. Chat Icon Chat Icon

--------------------------------------------------------

Crab Meadow Beach (town of Hunt) is totally booked up for all of July and August on a weekend.

We have had a family reunion at Schubert Beach for the last few summers. Any non-residents can pay the family member who is a resident in advance and either get them car passes, or leave them at the booth. Depending on how many non-residents you have, maybe you can work something out.

It is a great spot for a party! Just get there early and claim tables under the shelter, because they can reserve the space for up to 200 or so people, so you may be with other parties.
