Re: Is there a rule for mixing furniture..

for me I would say it's ok to mix the color of the woods or the material that the piece of furniture is made out of, but these two pieces are completely different styles all together. I don't think it would look good together. If you could find something in both pieces that are similar in style and the two pieces even though different colors will make sense in the room. But that is just me. Chat Icon

ETA: what is the style or feel you want in the room?

i am more ecliptic style but its hard to do well. If you put modern items on the country style and country things on the TV center it may work but it might be tough.

i think the pieces could work together if the console table was the same or similar tone as the media unit.

The rule is: Do whatever YOU like... Chat Icon

I've seen a lot of "expert" professional interior designers whose designs I absolutely hate. I can't fathom how they thing the things they put together actually work together. However, they, and many others love it.

I would mix those two. I agree with the PP - if YOU think it looks good, then it does.

I don't care about finishes - I care more about size. If the scale is right - then it's all gravy...

I concur.

One is much more modern and the other is country. I wouldn't mix those.

you can completly mix pieces, but not alway styles

you are mixing styles there that don't work well together

the bottom piece would work if it didn't have the baskets. the baskets take it to a country/shabby chic look, while the other piece has clean lines of a modern look
