kids need booster seats until age 8?
when did this start??

Booster seats
Booster seats are for older children who have outgrown their forward-facing car safety seats. Children should stay in a booster seat until adult belts fit correctly (usually when a child reaches about 4' 9" in height and is between 8 and 12 years of age).

The law changed mid November I believe to include age 7. So by law a child needs to be in a booster seat until they turn 8 years of age. It had previously been until age 7 not THROUGH age 7....
The recommendation has been until a child reaches 4 feet 9 inches for awhile now though....

hmm...it was weird when I read about it, as I couldn't remember but I was pretty sure I wasn't in booster at 8 back in the day ! lol
my first child is still a tot, but I gotta read up on all this stuff. lol

My DS is 7 and is still in a 5 pt booster. I only recently started caring that many of his friends are not in seats or are only in backless seats. He's about 4 ft. 4 inches now and I'd consider him on the tall side for his age so I can see many 8 year olds being under the 4 ft 9 inch.

i know its for safety reasons but WOW! i didnt reach 4'9inches till i was in 10th grade

Before this law passed I kept Jade in a booster seat , she was 6, and we got into a car accident ! She had a huge bruise across her chest from the impact, and the doc asked me if I had her in a seat still , when I told him yes ,he said good thing because if the seatbelt was on her neck it would have been really bad

"Back in the day", we didn't have car seats at all (my mom tells me how I was on her lap in the car on the way home from the hospital!  ), lead paint, asbestos, etc.
DS is 6 and not quite 4', so I can easily see him being in a booster for at least 2 more years.

LOL I meant to say HE only recently starting caring that many of his friends are not in seats... I don't care, whatever has to be done for their safety!
