Please help out a stressed preggo
I am torn over whether to return to work or not next week.
Here's the story: I am going to be 36 weeks tomorrow. This entire week I was out of work (I teach first grade). First I was written out due to tons of swine flu in the school, but the next day I started with consistent contractions that were 8-9 minutes apart around the clock. Ended up in L&D all day Tuesday, never dilated and was sent home. Thank goodness, because I want my little guy to cook longer. Rested all week, and yesterday contractions were 3-5 minutes apart all day. Saw the doc and was sent to l&D all day again. Only dilated to 1 so they sent me home. The doctor said I could go to work on Monday or stay out another week to try to make it to 37 weeks which is full term. As a teacher it is so hard to be out, too much to plan for and do and I can't get it done from home. Luckily today my contractions are very slow so I don't know what to do. Do I go in and tie up loose ends at work or do I stay home and hope I can make it to at least 37 weeks? HELP

ooh this is tough....Can you go in just to do some paperwork??? and not actually have to teach If you can do that i would go in for a half day, do what you can and then take the rest of the week off...I have to say though to you and all other teachers i dont know how you do it all day on your feet ...i am also 36 weeks (almost) and i sit all day and when i get home i am exhausted ...you ladies deserve alot of credit

Re: Please help out a stressed preggo
honestly, if you rest up all weekend, go in for a day and get things all tied up and then stay home until you deliver. it is so demanding to be up and around all day, especially with first graders and an approaching holiday. it isn't worth the risk but I know how it feels to get stuff done and feel like it is all taken care of. would your principal get an aide to help you for the day or even a perm. sub. so you can do stuff and have the kids covered?

I agree - go in on Monday and stay home the rest of the week.

Re: Please help out a stressed preggo
As a teacher, I totally know the feelings associated with missing work and having to be prepared for not being there. So I think you should go in tomorrow, take it easy and off your feet as much as you can, get all your ducks in a row and take it day by day. For me, the longer I can stay at work, the better because it's just easier that way. But give yourself a day by day approach and make your decisions as you go along.

Re: Please help out a stressed preggo
I've been teaching for years, and for me, this is a no brainer - stay home and take care of yourself!
Yes, you do want to get things in order and leave plans, but in the long run, you and your baby are more important.
The class will survive with the sub.
Can you email plans to anyone?
Do you have a friend that you work with that can go into your room and follow your directions and set it up?
