Calling all Greek ladies
One of my good friends who is Greek is having her first baby in a few months.
She is not having a baby shower because they do not believe in baby showers before the baby is born.
Once a month my friends and I have girls brunch at someones home (we all take turn hosting). For this months brucnch, we wanted to have a little celebration for her. We spoke to her mom who agreed to it & offered to have it catered.
Of course her mother is in Greece for the next 2 weeks. The brunch is 2 days before her mother returns.
None of us are Greek and are unsure if we should buy gifts. Some of us believe that since her mother is ok with it & knows that we wanted to make the brunch a celebration for her, that it also meant gifts.
Others of us feel that maybe she just thought we would have a cake & just decorate as such without the gifts.
My question is - should we buy gifts for her? or wait until after the baby is born? We don't want to step over tradition

My opinion would be to get her little somethings just for her (not the baby) in addition to cake and decorations. Motherhood maternity gift card, mustela or sephora products, etc. Then get her individual baby gifts for her shower/party after the baby is born.

You could also decorate some onesies and bibs for the baby with fabric paint...more crafty than gifty!

I agree with Athina I think its a nice idea, the gifts are for her, not the baby yet. My DH is greek and as far as I know my mom is planning a shower for me and planning to invite his family and I havent heard otherwise about not having a shower before the baby is born and they are very old school so I think you should be fine.
