72 inch table
If you have a 72 inch table how many can you seat comfortably for say a Holiday Dinner?
I think we found a dining set we like - regularly seats 6 but has a leaf to extend to 72 inches.......how many more people do you think I can squeeze in? 8-10?

Re: 72 inch table
According to Autocad, you can fit 6 ppl at at 72" table comfortably. 72" is 6 feet long. You can fit 2 people on the long side, allowing for 3 feet per person time 2 sides that's 4. Plus 1 person on each end of the short side, that makes 6. If you want to squeeze them in, you can probably fit 3 on the long side. but that means you're only allowing 2 feet per person which is very tight. Hope your guests are as skinny as you are.

Re: 72 inch table
ok i just looked at it again and it's 72 inches WITH the leaf open and it shows it open with 6 chairs....there would be no way to squeeze any more than 8 people....
i wonder if that is enough? or should we try and go bigger? i was hoping we'd find something with a leaf that would allow us to seat closer to 10....

Re: 72 inch table
we also have a table that opens to 6x6 square (so 72 sq.) and we can seat 10 comfortable, if 2 children, even 12!!
IT IS HARD to find tableclothes however

Re: 72 inch table
i would opt for the largest size with multiple leaves. this way you can extend to different lengths depending on the # of guests.

Re: 72 inch table
I believe my table opens up to 108' with two leaves. I buy 120' table clothes. We have sat 10 comfortably. We only have to add two folding chairs because we already have 8 chairs that go with the table.
If this is just for the holidays, you might consider just buying a folding table to add to your dining table. plus folding chairs. As long as you have the room for the folding table. Just a thought.

Re: 72 inch table
there is a table with multiple leaves that i like and we can seat 10.....but we think we like the smaller table better....
so do we get something that we like better for everyday use?
or do we get something we don't like as much but will always have room to entertain with?
than there is a 3rd table that we liked a few months ago that we are thinking about as well....
ugh! the decisions!

The question is "how often do you need the table to sit 10 people?".

Re: 72 inch table
I would go with the style I like better vs. fitting 10 people at the table. You can always buy a folding table to sit extra people. Also look into whether or not the style you like comes in the larger size. GL!

Re: 72 inch table
Well, there is a table at Ikea that we like that has multiple leaves and it can probably accomodate everyone for the holidays - it opens to around 103 or 104 inches.....we'd have to buy each chair seperately though - we were thinking of getting banana leaf chairs that are also from Ikea....
Then there is a table at Raymour and Flanigan that we like and it comes as a set - table, 4 chairs and a bench....but it's only 72 inches with the leaf....
Both sets are around the same price so that isn't a factor....
It's just trying to decide which we like better....
We looked all weekend in FL for a dining set and didn't see one thing we liked.....There are no R&F's down south so if we go with that table we'd probably want to order it before we move....
I don't know what to do.....I wish we could set them both up in our house and decide that way!
