Saw a truck today with a sign I didn't understand
On the way in to work I saw a box truck and the whole side of it was covered in a big sign that said:
"Toys R Us and Babies are Us are Destroying our Community" in big red letters.
Does anyone know what this is about? I don't recall hearing anything negative about these stores and how they would be ruining the community?
Anyone know the controversy?
Just curious really...

Yeah that is what I figured but then again the same could be said about Lowe's, Home Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target etc.
I was just wondering if there was something specific with those 2.

Maybe because most of what they sell comes from China and isn't good for our health?

That could be any store, not just TRU or BRU.

I guess they would need an 18-wheeler big rig to have the space to say, "Target, Walmart, BRU, TRU, Sears, Home Depot, ..... are ruining our communities"...

Their return policy bites. They are causing the homes of many parents to be clogged up with duplicates of toys that their children have received as gifts.

They have the same products at Target, Walmart etc. Then it would say Toys R Us and Babies are Us are Destroying our COUNTRY. TRU and BRU are all over the country.
Probably has to do with a competing store, or their return policy.

Re: Saw a truck today with a sign I didn't understand
I believe it has to do with BRU not allowing manufacturers to allow other stores (IRL or online) to sell their product cheaper ... i.e. Peg Perego has to be same price or cheaper at BRU. BRU sets the price.
Class Action Suit "In the suit, consumers allege that Babies "R" Us is the dominant retailer in the baby products market and that it used that power to eliminate competition from heavily discounting Internet retailers by coercing manufacturers to institute minimum price controls and bans on discounting. They are also causing an increase in re-gifting b/c of their policy!

It is because they are building the new store and are not using local labor. All the contractors on the job are from out of state.

I thought it was a labor thing - this explains it!
They have signs up where they are building the store too.

I agree that it sounds like a labor dispute. Sometimes, unions will use that kind of message when a company does not pay union level wages or "area standards."
They try to appeal to the public for support by arguing that lower wages for that kind of work affects the community by driving down wages.

They are destroying our communities because they cause angry PG women and mommies to post here to vent on about their HORRIBLE return policy.
