Re: difference between doula and midwife?
I am switching between seeing the midwife and one of the Drs at my practice. They are both covered by insurance. A main difference between a midwife and doula is a midwife sees and guides you through the whole process of being pregnant. A doula is there to help you through your labor. A doula is really just a very attentive labor coach.

Re: difference between doula and midwife?
So if I have an OB and a doula, insurance will cover them both?

Re: difference between doula and midwife?
A midwife provides complete medical care throughout the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. The only thing they can't do is c-sections. They are covered by insurance as your primary care proicder.
A doula offers labor/postpartum support. She offers you support to help you achieve the type of birth you want. Help you deal with contractions, etc. They are not covered by insurance.

Only a midwife is covered by insurance as they act as your medical professional throughout your pregnancy. A doula is not covered (at least not by mine). They provide support during and after the labor. refer to DONA I also found: Difference between Midwife and Doula HTH
