Newborn sleeping noises
Okay....I know it's normal- the grunting and stuff. But I'm wondering if my DD is on the extreme side. I feel like she does it AAALLL night!!! She went for a 4 hour stretch, but I fed her, she 'seemed' to want more an hour later, then 2 hours later.
We're co-sleeping just because I feel it's the only way I get a good night's sleep...but lately it hasn't been that way cuz she's sooo incredibly noisy!!! She writhes around, grunting, whining, stretches, arches her back, is all over the place...eyes still closed and it goes on FOREVER. So I keep wondering- do I nurse her? Is she awake? She can be in this state for soooo long....making all these noises, looking clearly uncomfortable, but not awake.
Does this seem unusual? Should I just wait til her eyes are open and she cries to feed her?
I seriously have to put her back in the bassinet...yet I'll still hear those noises and will keep wondering. At least I won't feel her kicking around.
I hope someone can help!! Thanks so much!

Re: Newborn sleeping noises
rooting is a natural reflex.. if something grazes or even touches their cheek they will root. When she is REALLY hungry she will wake up and cry.... Wait until she tells you she is hungry.. you may want to consider putting her in the nursery to sleep if she is keeping you awake and listening to her on a monitor. My mom could never keep my sister in her room when she was a baby... she was WAY too noisy of a sleeper.. You need to get your rest too!

Re: Newborn sleeping noises
ugh see the thing is, once I put her down, she cries and wakes up (if she's not in bed w /me) so I'm not sure I'd get sleep that way either!
I'm thinking of picking up a sleep positioner...I dunno....

Will she sleep in the swing? Have you tried that?

Re: Newborn sleeping noises
Both of my girls were/are such noisy sleepers that I had to move them into their own room, into their crib, within a week or two. Otherwise, I can't get an ounce of sleep.
I have noticed that Yael is definitely more restless and grunts a lot more in her sleep if she hasn't burped before I put her down to sleep.
ETA - I don't lay her down flat in her crib just yet - I put her rocker or her bouncer in the crib, and put her in that to sleep, with the vibration on, so she's a little upright, which seems to help with digestion and cuts back on all the grunting and moving around.

she doesn't last long enough in the swing...and I get nervous about her head, it always flops over to one side.

Re: Newborn sleeping noises
hey tara...do you have a white noise machine going on in your room? maybe you can put her back in the bassinet and turn on a white noise machine...both of you could get some sleep that way and when she cries, you'll DEF hear her . this tip was suggested to me when i posted on kellymom desperate for some advice on how to deal w DH's snoring and me going back to sleep after allison wakes up a hundred times a night...i never tried it, but it sounds great in theory! lol.

see...I was wondering it was a digestive issue cuz she's really gotten worse w/the noises and especially the moving around!
a week on AXID and I don't see a difference..ugh. maybe she's just a really gassy kid.

Re: Newborn sleeping noises
Tara- I think you know that we have a sleep positioner. It works well for us and has since the beginning. Liam makes a lot of noises at night too and moves a ton (especially in the past week). I think that the noises and movement is normal. I only get up if he is really crying. I have learned to "hear" the noises but "ignore" them until they are bad.

Liam's head always flops to the side. It is normal too. It is because their necks aren't strong enough yet. It happens in the swing and the carseat too. It's ok.
