I have the D40 it's only a few months old. I noticed yesterday that my camera doesn't seem to be working right. Last night I went to take a picture and it just wouldn't snap. So I charged the battery. Still wouldn't take the picture at first, but then decided to go. Now it's taking pictures but the lens doesn't seem to be focusing and it sounds slow. I only use AUTO if that makes a difference.
ANy ideas???? Do you think I need to send it out for repair? ugh.
THanks!

I'm not familiar with the D40 but is the lens set to Auto or manual mode? there should be a little switch near the lens.

Re: Nikon users
Did you drop it by any chance? Sounds like something that my camera/lens was doing when I dropped it...I had to send it out for repair.

Re: Nikon users
Make sure its on AF. Also, I would take the lens off and reattach. Sometimes they can come loose and wont function properly.
And I hate to say this, but if its the kit lens, mine broke after having it about a year. The kit lenses are not so great.

AF or manual, make sure your battery is charged, make sure lens is attach - if still not working then I suggest bringing to Nikon to check it out.
