NYS Troopers are the BEST! Carseat Inspection Related.
I called 631-756-3389 and spoke with Trooper Frank [insert last name that I don't remember - sounds like Pedeira] - he does safety seat inspections for the NY State Troopers. He was SO NICE and so accomodating.
The troopers schedule a car seat inspection/training/education session at the Trooper barracks on rt 110 in Farmingdale (right next to the 56th fighter group/republic airport/walmart) one Saturday per month - this month's session is 7/25.
Due to the fact that I'm getting closer to baby time and showing more and more signs of labor daily, I thought it'd be best to see if they would do anything earlier for me. Trooper Frank told me to come on my lunch break any day this week and he'd take care of it.
He spent 35 minutes of his day teaching this first time Mommy-to-be everything I needed to know about car seat safety, installation in my particular vehicle, safety of accessories, buckling in the baby, etc - not only as a trained professional, but also as a Dad who's been through this himself not too long ago.
I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend calling the above # and getting there on 7/25 - I have no little kids in my life at all, so I really had no idea what I was doing. I'm competent enough to read directions and the carseat manual, but it was much more informative to have someone SHOW ME what's right and what's wrong. (i.e.- even though my carseat manual said to put the seat in the middle of my backseat, it's safer on the side in my particular vehicle.)

They are great. They helped me a lot. They helped me when I turned the seat forward facing.

Wow, what car do you have? My seat is in the middle and I thought they all should be middle! (aside from minivans, etc!)...

All of the carseat inspectors I have worked with over the last two years have been amazing. I highly recommend getting it installed by a professional!

2006 Jeep Liberty. It has to do with the location of my LATCH system.
