Grass 101
I am a new jack at this gardening thing so excuse the dumb question but...we have patches in our backyard due to the old owners removing their pool and shed..so my question is how do i get grass to grow there??!?!? We tried raking the area and throwing down some scotts grass seeds, and we water ever day, but no luck. Any tips that anyone can share?? TIA

I'm no expert either but we are going to try sod. The house we're buying had a huge pond that is being removed and we plan on using that to cover the enormous spot.

Re: Grass 101
You need to put down top soil first, and then the grass seed. My dh did the entire front yard like this and now our grass looks the best it ever has :)

Re: Grass 101
We had a sinkhole a few months ago, and just put down sod to cover up the space where it was filled in. It looks great, and is starting to blend very nicely with the rest of the lawn.

Re: Grass 101
agreed - we just had top soil put down in our front yard and threw some grass seed down....10 days later we have grass growing - and it looks better than our old lawn!

Re: Grass 101
Go to Home Depot and get a few bags of this stuff, it totally works
And then after the seed is down maybe follow up with seed starting fertilizer a week or so later

Re: Grass 101
I put seed down on whatever dirt I have in the yard (not the best stuff, BTW), then put a thin layer of free compost from the town over all of it. Where I put the mulch, it's growing awesome. The spots where the mulch either washed away or I missed, is much spottier, and I'll probably have to hit it again with more seed and free mulch.

Re: Grass 101
We are going through this right now. Old pool & deck down now.
Top soil, E-Z Seed (fast growing/less water needed & it has starter fertilizer in it), & peat moss.
First rake the area, the dirt. About 1/2 down to losen soil already there. Then mix together the topsoil and seed and put in the areas needed. Put the Peat Moss on top of all of that and water twice a day. The peat moss helps to keep the birds and any other animals from eating it mostly and it keeps the moisture of the water in and doesn't let the seed and soil under it dry out as quick. GL!

Re: Grass 101
We removed a pool too and grew grass. You HAVE to get topsoil delivered and level out the land. Plus they put sand under a pool and you're not growing grass in sand.

I've seen the commercial for this stuff and it looks really good.
