Ugh - I just found a tic!!!!

I removed it with tweezers...

I didn't have alcohol to kill it - so I used hairspray! Chat Icon

That sucker was big and holding on for life - I'm hoping if it was big it wasn't a deer tic. I have had my share of tics. I was at Shelter Island this past weekend - which is deer central. And lyme disease central.

I have no time to go to the dr.... do you think I'll be ok???Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Ugh - I just found a tic!!!!

had it embedded itself? sounds like it might have. were you able to get the entire tic off/out of you? I had one a few years ago and had to go to the derm b/c I couldnt get the whole thing out of my shoulder. I ended up being ok, but got the sucker within 24 hrs of finding it.

Maybe see if you can get to the dr today or tomorrow? Bare minimum, keep an eye on the spot!

I would go to the doctor when you have a chance. But my mom had a tic embedded in her for a few days and she ended up fine. No lyme disease. I would go to the dr. to be sure though.

Just for peace of mind, I would find the time to get to the doctor. Even if it's for peace of mind -- I would spend days worrying about it.

I'm sure you will be okay. Did you save the tick? I would at least call the doctor and let him know. Lyme isn't the only disease ticks carry and deer ticks aren't the only ticks that carry diseases. That said, I'd bet you'll be just fine. I'd still call the doc for peace of mind. Chat Icon

Re: Ugh - I just found a tic!!!!

As an avid hiker, camper, and growing up going to shelter island this has to be the 15th tic I pulled out. I admit I'm a bit blase with it. If I get a mark I will get it checked out. Lately I have had so little time If I lost a limb I would have to duct tape it until I could get to a doctor!

I'm out with the horses all the time - I see ticks almost daily from May through October... They are never something I panic over. If one was even partially embedded, though, it's worth at least a heads up call to the doctor and saving the tick to identify it.

Re: Ugh - I just found a tic!!!!

This just happened to my daughter last month - I was freaking out!! It totally bit her and was embedded. I ran her to the doctor and she said she would be concerned if it was a deer tick but this one wasn't -- it was a Lone Star tick (we looked it up online as soon as it happened).

Do you remember what it looked like at all? Did it have a white splotch on it?

I had a deer tick that was embedded from riding quads with DH, and we got the whole thing out, and I brought the tick to the dr. they sent it out to find out if it had lymes. it didn't thankfully! I wouldn't worry though it wasn't a deer tick. wait and see if you get a mark from it or not.

We just went through a Lyme disease scare with DD- and one of the things I read was that a tick needs to be on you for at least 24 hours to transmit the disease.

Either way, I hate them. We pull them off our dog all the time.
