I have a question for those whose DC have been sick recently with a fever...
How do you know it is just a virus? If you took DC to the ped did they check for the swine flu? TIA!

Re: I have a question for those whose DC have been sick recently with a fever...
My dd was running a fever last week. My peds had me told me to wait and see if fever lasted 3 days before bringing her in.. The 3rd day I called that morning. Peds just checked her over, no specific testing for swine flu. He checked her ears, throat etc. Then gave me two prescriptions, one for bronchitis, and the other antibiotic (only to fill if boogies turned color and really got bad, never filled). I guess their are specific symptoms that they look for then will test for swine flu.. no clue what those are tho.

DD was running a fever on Sunday, early am.
Took her to the ped. and he did the normal physical. Ears, throat, etc.
Gave her antiobiotic for the virus, but never once mentioned swine flu.

DD had a fever for 5 days On day 4, they discovered an ear infection and put her on antibiotics. Now she has a rash so I think it may be roseola.
I doubt that a fever along could be swine flu.

Thanks ladies. I am not asking b/c DS is sick - thank god he is fine! I'm asking b/c of a conversation I had today with a ped. At his office they are automatically testing all toddlers that present with fever and respiratory symptoms for the swine flu. He said they are then treating them immed. with Tamiflu. His office is out on LI and he has seen several cases. he said that many are not testing and this is why it is not out there how prevalent this illness really is. Just wondering if that was the case.

Our dr took one look at Kiera and said it was not the flu or swine flu. There has to be more symptoms other then a fever for the flu.

Re: I have a question for those whose DC have been sick recently with a fever...
I brought my 10 month old in to check his ears since my kids tend to get ear infections with colds and he did have an ear infection. No mention of swine flu. His fever was never high but he did develop a bad cough the day after we went to the doc and I called out of precaution and they said could be bronchitis which the antibiotic would cover so no worries.
Now we are going through the same thing with my DD and she told me her ear hurts so tomorrow I am bringing her in to get an antibiotic for that, but again no concerns for swine flu since they were never lethargic.
