Surprised by this pic on MLSLI
These people are trying to sell their house in West Islip... I'm truly surprised their agent would let them put this pic up to advertise the house:
#1: Of course, that Confederate flag on the right
#2: Are those, um, "punishment tools" hanging on the wall on the left?

not the most inviting pic I agree...but I think thats a cuckoo clock on the left with stuff draped over it (although on second look one of those things does look like a collar )

I find it surprising- this is Long Island- not the Redneck Riviera. Maybe I'm a little overly-pc, but I don't think that that aspect of our history is anything to brag about.

Honestly, after looking at houses, NOTHING will surprise me!! One of the houses we went into had undies on the floor and smelled like PEE

With the calendar, airplanes and trophies on the wall, I would guess that it's a teenager's bedroom. He has no idea what any of that stuff means, and he just thinks it's "cool". I think the thing hanging closest to the window is actually a necklace type thing. The type with the wide fabric strap, and a keychain/carabiner on the end. The two long chains are the chains from the cuckoo clock.

I think that thing on the left is a cuckoo clock with stuff hung over it. As for the flag, I'm sure it's some kid who is trying to make a statement. A WRONG statement of course!

kids! what can you do. they have their own mind. But of course the REA should not have really put the pic up. And that really does look like a cockdoo clock with something else hanging off of it. Nothing amazes me anymore.....have you looked at my "before" pics. I still can't believe how the previous owners lived in our house.

LoL surprised over west islip since all the skins I ran into at shows (hardcore) lived in W. Babylon LoL. But if I was the RA I would of made them take down the damn flag for showing the house.
There is a house we just placed a bid on that was never updated except for the front of the house (sides of the house has the original asbestos shake siding) interior is HELLO 1968, and they smoked in the house. The guy had D&D items all over, swords and pentacles which is fine with me but I am sure your average person would be freaked out. I hope that is in our benefit since we placed a very low offer since I really think the guy overpriced his house.

To top it off their fridge was COVERED in bible quotes to support views that jews, gays, blacks and protestants were not worthy of heaven.
Needless to say we never ever considered the home on its own because we couldn't see past our first impression.

But you're buying the house not the contents, so why would that turn you off from the house?
I understand that it would be hard to focus on the house itself with all those distractions around, but it wouldn't make me not consider the house.
Some people just don't understand the concept of making your house look neutral to appeal to the majority of people. Then they wonder why it doesn't sell!

This is still better than the open house we went to that had the teenaged son still sleeping IN HIS BED when we went to look at the house. We went back for a second open house and he was asleep again!
