Not my style -- I agree with Jess -- I think I would get more people bending over and breathing their germs on Chat Icon trying to read the sign than the few people who might want to touch her.

Seems like a little bit much to me.
We weren't overly paranoid about Lily being touched by family or strangers, and yesterday, at over 22 months, she had her first real illness - an unexplained fever.
Germs can be good. One of the theories behind why there are so many food allergies these days is because of all of the germaphobia going on in the world!

I actually never had a problem with strangers touching DD, I think I would be more concerned with them leaning over to read the sign. For those who are really concerned about it, it seems it would get the point across, I guess I'm just a little to laid back to use one.

I have to say, I can't remember one person ever touching Cailen as a baby, or even now.

He was out in a restaurant at 2 weeks old. People oohed and ahhed at a distance but no one ever thought of touching someone's newborn....

As an infant in his carrier, he was always right near me. There was no way unless someone pushed me over that they would have touched him. And at 8 weeks old, the kid spent so much time on the floor at daycare, sitting in the same bouncy seats as other babies and there were a million people coming in and out of the room, germs were inevitable regardless....

In public, he was in my arms or in his stroller with my eyes on him. And if someone came over and touched his hands, I would wipe them after, explaining politely that he puts his hands in his mouth, and that he "just got over a cold" or something so they wouldn't feel bad....

I respect you ladies for being protective, and not wanting people to touch or contaminate your babies, but they will be exposed to the world and things will happen now and then....

I would never put a sign like that in my childs carrier...I think its obnoxious personally.

And I agree with a PP...I never had all these problems moms talk about today..sure people cooed at him, looked at him etc...but maybe a FEW times only was he touched by anyone and it really never ever bothered me. If it bothered me that much I would prob put a little purell on his hands after he was touched and be done with it.

Our society is going crazy today!!! Soon we will have babies in their own bubble tent so they cannot have any exposure to germs. Thereby creating more problems!

I have read so many stories about how todays kids are actually sicker because of the craziness with wanting to rid them of every germ and in fact it makes their immune systems weak and more resistant.

**I too can sort of understand a new moms feelings on germs and wanting to keep a baby protected..I know my reply sounds harsh but i guess I just don't understand why people get so bent out of shape over these things, thats all.

I feel like society is one step away from putting our child in a bubble for the first year.

I think the sign is a little obnoxious. If i felt strongly about that, i'd probably still put it up, but it's definitely a deterent- both from you and the baby, imo.

I completely agree with you.

Same here. I think it's kinda weird and obnoxious.

I love the idea, but it may offend some people. I have a big mouth and have no problem telling people to wash their hands before they touch her, though. When i am in a store, I have the shade over her so much that no one can even see her. We haven't really even brought her to many stores, bc she is only 5 weeks though!

Cute idea- but I see that sign as an invitation for strangers to touch my kid- but with clean hands.

Personally, I feel it is the responsibility of the parent to be mindful of who is around their kid and to make sure they verbally inform people not to touch their kid.

Honestly- I've got 2 little ones and I have NEVER had people touch them without first asking.
