November mommies and Thanksgiving/Holidays question.

ok so it may be a little early to start thinking about this, but my EDD is November 19th

thanksgiving is November 26th...

i really highly doubt i will be feeling up to going ANYWHERE for thanksgiving (assuming i have had the baby by then), and i don't exactly think it is a good idea to be lugging a newborn all over the place either. Not only that but my family members all have dogs which may also make me nervous with a newborn.

Is it strange of me to feel like i wont want to go to anyone's house for thanksgiving? I am hoping (depending on when the baby is born) that we can keep it low key and a few family members (meaning just immediate family) can come by us. Is that too much to ask or do you think that will be taken as rude?

It's our first baby, and i kinda want to be in the privacy of my own home in the beginning while we are getting used to it.

It's hard enough we will have to figure out what to do for christmas b/c the baby will still only be about a month old. but hopefully by then we will have things down a little better.

Part of me is excited that we will have a baby for the holiday's but i'm also nervous b/c it will all be so new at that time.

what are everyone elses thoughts on this.

I am due 11/2 and typically the family goes to my mom's house for thanksgiving. I intend on going. Gives the whole family time to see the new baby and reinforces how much I have to be thankful for this yearChat Icon

yeah i know what you are saying...i guess since my EDD is SO close to thanksgiving i feel nervous, and we usually split thanksgiving half and half with my parents and ILs...so i guess we will have to see what happens.

im due around Nov 13. I would like to attend Thanksgiving at in-laws but ultimately, its up to my dr. If he feels either I am not ready (say i have a c-section) or baby isnt ready to be around too many people, then im staying home.

You need to do what you feel comfortable with and ready for

Re: November mommies and Thanksgiving/Holidays question.

i'm due nov 27th--the day after thanksgiving.

as a BTDT mom, i had a completely difference experience than what you're imagining. i couldn't wait to get out of the house and be with family. get togethers were so nice because i got to relax while family spent time with my baby. i was out and about within days of giving birth (and i had an episiotomy).

i think you need to wait until you give birth to even think about this. you have no idea how you'll feel physically and mentally. what you think you will feel is not necessarily what you will feel. i highly doubt you'd want family to come by you for thanksgiving dinner a week after giving birth. you'll probably be dying to go somewhere where everyone else will take care of things.

i'm excited about thanksgiving and can't wait to see if i give birth before or after it. if it's after, i'm definitely going to family for the big dinner!

everyone is different, wait and see.

I'd wait and see how you feel mentally and physically as a previous poster said. I stayed home with my son for the holidays because I didn't want to bring him around other kids/people until he got his first shots. My pediatrician suggested minimal contact especially around other children to avoid getting him sick. Personal choice as well on my part. You need to do what you feel is right for you, and your baby and you will know when the time comes. Good Luck !!!

I am due end-October, but have already told my mother that I am not going to my aunt's house for the traditional huge family Thanksgiving. My cousins' slimy and horribly behaved kids will be there and that with that many family members I don't want my newborn being passed around like a football.

I think we will be at home eating turkey sandwiches this year. Happily.

I have not thought about it until now. I honestly do not know. We usually go to my mom's, but we will have a 3 week old and there will be other babies (older). I'm not sure if I will be comfortable or even up to it.

Neither of my kids were born around a holiday but here is my 2 cents. If you want to do it at your house so it stays small than I would say cater it. I do it every Thanksgiving. Order everything from the Turkey to the sides and just have to heat it up or have someone your mom or MIL that would be willing to do everything.

Personally I would go to someones house if I felt up to it. Leave the baby in the carrier most of the day so he/she isn't being passed around. Enjoy the day.
