Question with Poll...
And how soon after looking did you close?
We started in September and closed in late October.
ETA: What was more of a factor in looking for you...interest rates at the time? the weather? or something else?
DH and I are having a debate about what causes people to start "looking". Stupid debate I know, but I was just curious. TIA

We're hoping to close May 30th...1) so we can continue to bank $$$ and 2) so that we don't have to pay back taxes to the seller 
ETA: We started looking May of 2004 and stopped that August (our wedding was Sept.). We started up again January 2005...and found a house late February, 2006.
We started looking b/c we were done with renting and wanted a house...weather, rates, etc were not factors.

We started looking in September, found the house in November, and closed in May. We started looking as soon as I legally changed my name after we returned from our honeymoon.

We started looking when we had a certain amount saved.
We began in mid March, found our house mid May and closed mid August.
We started pretty much because all of the hub-bub of the wedding was over and we'd setteled down, paid off all our credit card bills, saved money for down payment and just felt it's what was next. We were in no rush with an open ended lease and waited to find a house we loved.
For us it had nothing to do with season or weather or interest rates or the ridiculous housing market, we were just ready.

We started looking in late September. We knew it would take some time, but wanted to make sure we closed before our wedding (this august). Even though we wanted to close before our wedding, we wanted to have a couple of months to settle in before the wedding.
We found our house beginning of February. We are scheduled to close around April 15.

We started casually looking in the winter January-March. Found our house in April, closed in May.
For us, what caused us to look is we got married in the late fall waited out the holidays and had free time to look and explore what was out there. We thought the entire process would take longer than it did. Our original plans were to find a house and not close until September-ish when my old apt lease would have been expiring. But we found our house much soomer than we expected.

We started looking after we got engaged in May 04, but then DH found that his job was potentially transferring to another state (it did) so we waited until we were more certain of where we were going. We started to look in NJ (the new location) in April 05 after the move location was announced just to get a feel of the different neighborhoods. We started to seriously look in August 05 and found our home in September 05 and closed in October 05.
We had to close before November 05 as we would have lost an amazing rate lock. So I knew that I had to find a house by the second week of October at the latest in order to close before we would loose the rate lock. In addition, DH had to be in NJ at his new job location by December 05 so we needed to move in November 05 (which we did). We were under a time crunch because the move gave us 1/3 of the amount of our downpayment for our home. If we did not buy when we did we would have lost $$$$ because the company gave us twice as much to buy than to rent.

late summer early fall
and we had to sell our condo first so that was the biggest factor..
And we feared what another season would do to predicted drops in prices...
so we went for it
We sold our condo but we are STILL looking for our home

This was pretty much us but we aren't going to close till mid-April and probably won't more in till June. We started looking because we wanted out of our apartment we felt giving someone else 16,000 of our money was enough & we had the money in the bank. We wanted out of our apartment by sept and figured if we found something by then it would be ok we ended up finding something really quickly and we couldn't be happier.

We started looking around Thanksgiving, found it in December, went to contract the day before Christmas. We closed at the end of March. We could have closed in Feburary, but we wanted to wait because of our lease at our old apartment.

In February, right after we got back from our honeymoon. We didn't find one till the end of August. We closed in November.

We started looking in April. Stopped for a few months during the summer, started up again in very beginning of September. Found our house in November, closed the first week of December.

We started looking in July, found the house in July, signed the contract in AUgust and didn't close until November because the sellers weren't ready. We started loking because we just found out I was pregnant and we needed to move asap... took alot longer than planned...
